Lady Vol Notebook

Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt knew last March she had to recruit more athletic players to compete with the elite teams in women's college basketball. The early returns look positive.

Lady Vols players who have played pickup games with Heritage High's Cait McMahan and junior college transfers Shannon Bobbitt and Alberta Auguste have been impressed.

``Our players are really excited (about the newcomers),'' Summitt said. ``They feel they (recruits) will help right away.

``They bring what Tennessee missed last year: athleticism, speed and quickness. All three are very skilled.''

Bobbitt has exceptional speed and quickness and will play the point. Auguste can play the point, but she's better suited to play off guard or small forward, Summitt said.

Nikki Moats is the other signee but she's still recovering from a torn ACL.
