New Yorke Tymes writes: " The Orange, the White - I almost cried "
The L.A. Son on Volapalooza III: " A triumph of the human spirit. No one should miss this one! "
Wall Streat Journal adds: " FREE? We're not sure what they were thinking but invest the time to be at Volapalooza III - It's a guaranteed winner "
The Nashville Harold said: " If you can only attend one event this season, don't miss Volapalooza III "
2002 marks the first time that the Vols have played anyone other than Vanderbilt in Adelphia Coliseum, taking on Wyoming in the season opener. This game was originally scheduled to be played in Laramie, WY in a home and home series dating back to 1999 but was rescheduled to Adelphia in 2000. The Vols will be the visiting team in this contest slated to get underway at approximately 4:30PM Central Standard Time.
For this year's gathering a block of over 260 tickets were secured ensuring our largest turnout ever. We will have free and close parking, which requires a permit (by advance request, while supplies last). In addition, there will be a large amount of food provided (while supplies last), also free. The Shopping Vol will be on hand with a large selection of Vol merchandise at great prices and the writers from Rocky Top News will be our special guests.
Even if you don't park in our lot or didn't get tickets as part of our block, you are still invited to join us for a day that will truly be special - even more so with you there so please join us. We would love to meet and greet 500 Vol fans on that day.
FREE parking only two blocks from the stadium in a private lot with a security guard has also been arranged. Permit required (Advance request, while supplies last). There is a large amount of cover and we will have a tent or two set up. However, if you have a canopy style tent and the means, please bring it. It is also advised to bring your own lawn chairs.
BBQ will be the meal de jour courtesy of one Ron Tosh as he has pledged a very generous amount of BBQ for his guests. Sandman, famous for his fishin tales during recruiting season, is compiling a list of potluck items needed to compliment the provided BBQ.
Items Needed Contact
Nick Grinnell, Randy Moore and Jeffery Stewart of Rocky Top News will be in attendance to chat with Vol fans and answer questions until they have to go to work covering the game. We may also have a surprise guest or two as well.
The Shopping Vol, well known for unique and specialty items, will be present at this year's gathering. The Shopping Vol has been delivering quality Vol merchandise at great prices to Vol fans on-line for over two years.
The Shopping Vol has a very good idea about the Vol Vs Wyoming game too. What a statement it would make if everyone who bought tickets in our group were wearing one of the Patriotic Power T-shirts at the game. 260+ people all wearing America's colors would be a living testament of the will of the American people in our effort to protect FREEDOM.
Those interested can order their shirt on-line and either have it delivered or save shipping by picking it up at Volapalooza III.
Prior to the game we will award Shopping Vol gift vouchers for the following:
(1) Most oUTrageous Vol Vehicle $25
(1) Most oUTrageous Vol Fan Attire $25
(1) Most Orange wearin' Vol fan $25
(1) Most elaborate tailgate setup $25
Come take your picture with a giant 8' inflatable Smokey. Also on display will be an incredible 20' replica of Neyland Stadium, complete with a separate 20,000-piece collection of Vol fans sitting in the stands.
VolChat gathering history
Since 1998 Ron Tosh has been graciously hosting the GridScape community for any occasion that the Vols are playing in Nashville, his home turf. The Vols own a 2-0 record when we have a gathering in Nashville.
1998 - Our gathering in Centennial park for the final game of the season Vs Vanderbilt, a victory which incidentally concluded a perfect 11-0 regular season, drew about 80 fans on an uncharacteristically gorgeous late November day of college football.
Vols 41 Vanderbilt 0
2000 - We secured a block of over 120 tickets together for this game Vs Vanderbilt, their first meeting in Adelphia Coliseum. In spite of cold, damp weather and waning enthusiasm after 3 losses in the regular season, over 150 Vols made this an event to remember.
Vols 28 Vanderbilt 26
