Lady Vols crack top 10 in three polls

The first weekend sweep of 2006 helped the Tennessee soccer team win its second First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic title in history and rise in the four major national rankings, topping out at ninth in both the and Soccer Buzz magazine polls.

Tennessee also ranks 10th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas ratings and 12th in the most recent Soccer America standings.

The Big Orange stands at 3-1-1 on the season after topping UNC-Greensboro and Middle Tennessee State University in the seventh First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic. Juniors Emily Redberg (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Jordan Falcusan (Plymouth, Mich.) earned the offensive and defensive MVP awards, respectively, and were joined on the all-tournament team by seniors Ali Christoph (Columbus, Ohio ) and Jenny Jeffers (Lake Zurich, Ill.) and sophomore Kylee Rossi (Pennington, N.J.).

Redberg currently leads the squad with three goals, while Jeffers and fellow senior Kristen Doukakis (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) are tied for the top spot in assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Jaimel Johnson (Dayton, Ohio ) has a 0.56 goals against average, collecting two clean sheets so far in 2006.

Tennessee takes on No. 29 Stanford and No. 3 Santa Clara at the Stanford Invitational, being held at Maloney Field on Friday and Sunday in Palo Alto, Calif.
