Florida defensive back Reggie Nelson intercepted a 50-yard pass from Erik Ainge on the game's first play but Tennessee's defense held. The Gators cashed in on their second possession, marching 63 yards in seven plays to go up 7-0. The capper was a 21-yard TD pass from Chris Leak to Jemalle Cornelius on a crossing route. Tennessee finally got its offense moving on its final possession of the quarter. Jonathan Wade intercepted and returned 20 yards to the Florida 49-yard line. UT moved to the Gator 19-yard line before stalling, and James Wilhoit hit a 36-yard field goal.
KEY PLAY

On third and two at the Vol 31-yard line, Florida backup QB Tim Tebow gained 10 yards on an option keeper. Leak returned and connected with Cornelius for the TD on the very next play.

KEY PLAYER

Leak. He completed 4 of 6 passes for 45 yards and the quarter's only TD.

KEY STAT

Tennessee rushed the ball four times for just five net yards.

Unable to generate any offense, UT resorted to trickery. A flanker pass from Lucas Taylor to tailback LaMarcus Coker picked up 48 yards and a touchdown, putting Tennessee on top 10-7. Florida drove to the Vol 29-yard line but Chris Hetland missed a 47-yard field goal try with 1:08 left in the half.
KEY PLAY

Back-to-back plays in the quarter saw an 85-yard punt return by Florida's Brandon James and a 30-yard interception return by UT linebacker Marvin Mitchell nullified by penalties. An illegal-block-in-the-back penalty killed James' return. A roughing-the-passer call against J.T. Mapu wiped out Mitchell's big play.

KEY PLAYER

Lucas Taylor. The former prep QB made a nice throw on the flanker pass to Coker, who rambled the final 20 yards for the score.

KEY STAT

Florida posted 12 first downs to UT's 4 in the first half, yet the Vols had a 10-7 lead.

Tennessee went 61 yards in eight plays on its first possession of the second half, with Montario Hardesty getting the TD on a dive from the 1-yard line. The 17-7 lead was short-lived, however, as Florida answered two possessions later with an eight-play, 72-yard drive capped by a four-yard Leak-to-Dallas Baker TD toss.
KEY PLAY

On second-and-10 at the Gator 30-yard line, Ainge hit Jayson Swain on a quick slant and the play carried to the Gator 1-yard line, setting up Hardesty's TD dive.

KEY PLAYER

Swain. In addition to his 29-yard catch, he had a 15-yard grab earlier in the same drive.

KEY STAT

After controlling the ball 19:13 to UT's 10:47 in the first half, Florida gained 102 yards in the quarter against a UT defense that appeared to be tiring.

Wilhoit nailed a 51-yard field goal - matching his career best - to give Tennessee a 20-14 lead with 10:49 to play. Florida answered on the ensuing possession, though, marching 65 yards in eight plays. The Gators got the tying TD on a 21-yard pass from Leak to a wide-open Dallas Baker, and Hetland's PAT provided a 21-20 lead. Tennessee advanced to the Florida 39-yard line before Nelson picked off Ainge for the second time. When DeShawn Wynn sealed UT's doom with 2:49 to play by picking up six yards on third-and-six at the Gator 28-yard. The first down kept UT from getting the ball back.
KEY PLAY

When Tennessee drove to a first-and-10 at the Florida 39-yard line on its final possession, the Vols were just five yards from being in Wilhoit's field-goal range. Gator linebacker Brandon Siler sacked Ainge for a 14-yard loss, however, and a desperation pass by Ainge on fourth-and-16 was picked off.

KEY PLAYER

Wynn. He rushed six times for 43 yards in the final period, including a 26-yard ramble to set up Florida's TD and the six-yarder on third-and-six that put the final nail in the coffin.

KEY STAT

Tennessee finished with minus-11 net yards rushing.
