After helping the Tennessee soccer squad hand Florida its initial conference loss with her first career two-goal effort, sophomore forward Kylee Rossi earned Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday. Rossi also was selected as the Lady Vol Athlete of the Week, as voted on by the UT women's media relations staff.
The Pennington, N.J., native was stellar on Sunday against the Gators, first driving down the sideline and into the six-yard box before tucking a ball past Florida senior goalkeeper Brittni Goodwin for the opening score. She followed that with her initial game-winner in 2006, taking a pass from junior defender Jordan Falcusan, touching the ball past a defender and finding the net in the 39th minute.
The outing was Rossi's first two-goal match at Tennessee. The award is the fourth weekly SEC honor collected by Rossi in her second season, joining the two Freshman of the Week and one Offensive Player of the Week certificates she picked up last year.
Tennessee holds a 5-3-3 record overall and a 1-1-2 mark in the SEC going into the first home weekend in a month at the Regal Soccer Stadium. The Lady Vols host LSU on Friday night at 7 p.m. before welcoming Arkansas on Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. match.
