Tuesday Afternoon Practice Report

The Vols were full speed ahead for Saturday's matchup with the Blue Raiders from Middle Tennessee. Coach Fulmer seemed to be very focused on the MTSU team and the threat that they impose.

"Practice was very good today," Coach Fulmer said following the afternoon drills. "We fought through the heat and focused very strongly on Middle Tennessee's formations." The Blue Raiders are a very gutsy team that will give the Vols a very solid game on Saturday.

"I am very proud of our defense to keep fighting back with the injuries that have happened," Fulmer said. "It takes a tough team to overcome those type of things and they are showing us(the coaches)what we like to see."

Tennessee coaches still hadn't heard a solid verdict on linebacker Kevin Burnett's MRI, which was a few hours ago, but all signs still point to a season ending ACL tear. Kevin Simon, Jason Mitchell and Robert Peace will be heavily responsible for picking up in Burnett's absence. Peace, who is a middle linebacker, will be looked at by coaches to help fill the void. Simon will most likely start, but Peace has the experience on him. Both guys give Tennessee a good combo punch to fill in for Burnett.

Coach Fulmer expects Steven Marsh and Leonard Scott to be available for Saturday's game. The Vols looked very crisp on Tuesday and sound like they are very prepared for a highly talented MTSU team.
