Thursday Afternoon Practice Report

Tennessee put the pads on one last time to practice before the No. 10 Florida Gators come to town. The Vols have had a very intense week of practice and Thursday proved to be no different.

Earlier in the week it appeared that the Vols would still be without some their key players going into the Florida game even with the team having a two week break between games. On Thursday the picture on the injury tube went from blurry to clear as a whistle. Tennessee might be in good shape after all.

The head man weighed in on his gimpy players. "Jason(Respert) has gotten good work all of this week," Coach Fulmer said. "We expect him to see playing time on Saturday. Tony(Brown) has looked good this week, so we are anticipating a big day out of him."

Kicker Alex Walls will be the placekicker on Saturday, but the Phillip Newman will be the kickoff guy. "We just don't want to get Alex tired early in the game," Fulmer said. "Phillip has doen a tremendous job for us and we feel very confident to let him man the job."

As of this moment it looks all the Vols that were questionable the last two weeks, will be ready to go on Saturday. They all may not be 100 percent, but they will play. Mondre Dickerson did not practice today, but Fulmer said he had a small flu. He is expected to be ready for the game. Chavis Smith is still slated to play on Saturday as well. Chavis will wear knee braces on both knees and he could be limited. As Coach Fulmer said, Tony Brown will play on Saturday. He still doesn't look completely back to form, but he is penciled in to start at the No. 2 wideout spot. With Fulmer's comments about Respert, that means that there should be no player that doesn't dress out because of nagging injuries. Obviously Kevin Burnett and Constantin Ritzmann won't play this weekend because of ACL knee injuries to both guys.

Tennessee has concluded their practice week today. There is a walk-through scheduled for Friday and then the players will be looking to the Vol Walk at 1:30 on Saturday afternoon.
