Eight home games in '09?

Fans who say they can never get enough University of Tennessee football, take heart: You may have eight home games to attend in 2009. That's the word from athletics director Mike Hamilton.

Speaking at Phil Fulmer's annual media golf outing earlier today, Hamilton said the Vols are one opponent shy of having a complete 12-game schedule set for 2009. Tennessee needs a foe for its Sept. 5 opener. The Vols will host UCLA on Sept. 12, visit Florida Sept. 19 and host Ohio University Sept. 26.

Hamilton said he has been "toying with whether or not to go on the road and get a payback game later at home, or do a neutral-site game or actually do a home game."

Although Tennessee already has seven home games locked in for 2009, the athletics director conceded that, "Right now I'm leaning toward adding an eighth home game."

Tennessee's 2009 schedule is as follows:

Sept. 5 – to be determined

Sept. 12 – UCLA

Sept. 19 – at Florida

Sept. 26 – Ohio University

Oct. 3 – Auburn

Oct. 10 – Georgia

Oct. 24 – at Alabama

Oct. 31 – South Carolina

Nov. 7 – Memphis

Nov. 14 – at Ole Miss

Nov. 21 – Vanderbilt

Nov. 28 – at Kentucky

Tennessee's 2008 schedule, announced earlier, is as follows:

Aug. 30 – UAB

Sept. 6 – at UCLA

Sept. 20 – Florida

Sept. 27 – at Auburn

Oct. 4 – Northern Illinois

Oct. 11 – at Georgia

Oct. 18 – Miss. State

Oct. 25 – Alabama

Nov. 1 – at South Carolina

Nov. 8 – Wyoming

Nov. 22 – at Vanderbilt

Nov. 29 – Kentucky

Hamilton wants UT's schedule each year to include at least one foe he considers "an intersectional BCS-type opponent." He believes he has these lined up through 2017. They are: UCLA in 2008 (away) and 2009 (home), Oregon in 2010 (home), North Carolina in 2011 and 2012, Oregon in 2013 (away), Oklahoma in 2014 and 2015 and Nebraska in 2016 and 2017.

As the athletics director noted: "We have some quality folks on the horizon."
