Apparently inspired by a three-and-out from Tennessee's defense on the game's opening possession, the Vol offense marched 81 yards in 12 plays to take a 7-0 lead on Georgia. Arian Foster got the TD on a nifty nine-yard run.
KEY PLAY

Foster's TD run. The quick start seemed to energize a team needing confidence and a home crowd needing a reason to cheer.

KEY PLAYER

Foster. He had seven carries for 46 yards in the quarter, plus an 11-yard gain on a swing pass.

KEY STAT

Georgia gained just 28 net yards on 12 plays in the quarter and never advanced beyond its own 43-yard line.

On the first play of the period Lucas Taylor completed a 56-yard flanker pass to LaMarcus Coker that put Tennessee on top 14-0. Moments later, Ellix Wilson blocked a punt to set up a 48-yard drive that ended with Montario Hardesty bolting 10 yards for a score that widened the gap to 21-0. After another three-and-out by Georgia, UT zoomed 65 yard in four plays with Foster getting the TD on a 22-yard burst that boosted the lead to 28-0.
KEY PLAY

The Taylor-to-Coker pass. Taylor took a handoff on an apparent end-around to the right side, then stopped and threw back to Coker, who was wide open along the left sidelines.

KEY PLAYER

The entire UT defense. It was stellar.

KEY STAT

UT went to the half with a 14-2 advantage in first downs and an amazing 291-59 advantage in total yards.

Georgia finally got on the scoreboard, marching 74 yards in seven plays with Matthew Stafford's 26-yard pass to Demiko Goodman cutting UT's lead to 28-7. Tennessee promptly responded with a 13-play, 65-yard drive that consumed 7:10 and ended with a four-yard TD run by Foster, upping the lead to 35-7.
KEY PLAY

On third-and-11 at the Georgia 36-yard line Ainge hit Austin Rogers for 12 yards and a first down. UT scored five plays later, rebuilding the gap to 28 points.

KEY PLAYER

Stafford. With almost no support from his ground game, the Georgia QB completed 6 of 12 passes for 92 yards and a TD in the quarter.

KEY STAT

After converting just 2 of 9 third-down tries in the first three periods, the Dawgs converted 2 of 3 in the third, briefly enabling them to get back in the game.

KEY PLAY

None. The game was over by the time the final period began.

Hardesty. Showing no ill effects of his recent ankle injury, he carried seven times for 31 yards in the quarter.

KEY STAT

During the second half of the 2006 UT-UGA game and the first half of the 2007 game the Vols outscored the Bulldogs 65-9 over a span of four quarters.
