What follows is a quarter-by-quarter recap of Tennessee's 52-50 four-overtime defeat of Kentucky Saturday in Lexington.

The Tennessee Vols scored on the first offensive snap of the game, Erik Ainge throwing to Arian Foster, who slipped out of the backfield and raced 65 yards for a touchdown. The Vols went up 14-0 on Kentucky later in the quarter, Ainge hitting Lucas Taylor with an 18-yard TD pass that capped a four-play, 83-yard drive. Daniel Lincoln was just short with a 47-yard field goal attempt late in the period.
KEY PLAY

Ainge's first-play TD strike to Foster. It put the Cats on their heels and quieted the Commonwealth Stadium crowd.

Ainge. The Vol QB completed 8 of 11 passes for 194 yards and two TDs in the quarter.

UK closed to 14-7 with an 11-play, 70-yard drive capped by a 17-yard pass from Andre Woodson to Steve Johnson. A 45-yard Lincoln field goal boosted the lead to 17-7. Xavier Mitchell intercepted a Woodson pass with 40 seconds left in the half, and Ainge hit Quintin Hancock with a 15-yard TD pass two plays later as the Vols went to the break leading 24-7.
KEY PLAY

Mitchell's interception and return. Woodson threw the ball right to the Vol defensive end, who returned the ball 14 yards from the UK 31-yard line to the 17.

KEY PLAYER

Ainge again. The Vol QB was even more accurate in the second period (8 of 10), producing 77 yards and another passing TD.

At the half, UT had 307 yards of total offense, UK just 133.

Kentucky took the second-half kickoff and went 80 yards in 14 plays to pull within 24-14. The score came on a five-yard toss from Woodson to Dicky Lyons. Demonte Bolden sacked Woodson late in the quarter and Wes Brown recovered at the Big Blue 30. Ainge hit Jeff Cottam with a two-yard TD pass five plays later for a 31-14 lead. Woodson hit tight end Jacob Tamme with a two-yard TD pass to cap a six-play, 78-yard drive that narrowed the gap to 31-21 with just one second left in the period.
KEY PLAY

Bolden's sack and the resulting fumble recovery by Brown. Tennessee scored five plays later to go up 31-14.

KEY PLAYER

Tamme. The UK tight end caught five passes for 62 yards in the period, including the TD throw that got the Cats back in the game.

Kentucky went 66 yards in eight plays, scoring on an eight-yard pass from Woodson to Steve Johnson to pull within 31-28 with 6:11 to play. UK then got a game-tying 20-yard field goal by Knoxville native Lones Seiber. OVERTIME NO. 1: Woodson hit Keenan Burton with a seven-yard TD pass but UT answered with a 10-yard pass from Ainge to freshman Gerald Jones. OVERTIME NO. 2: Sam Maxwell intercepted an Ainge pass in the end zone to thwart UT's possession but Dan Williams blocked Lones Seiber's potential game-winning 35-yard field goal. OVERTIME NO. 3: Woodson hit Burton with an 11-yard TD pass on third-and-seven but a two-point conversion pass was intercepted by Antonio Reynolds. Ainge hit Austin Rogers with a 13-yard TD pass but Arian Foster's conversion run was stopped and he incurred a 15-yard penalty for slinging the ball in frustration. OVERTIME NO. 4: Starting at the UK 40 because of the penalty against Foster, UT scored on its first play - a 40-yard toss from Ainge to wide-open Quintin Hancock. A two-point conversion pass to Austin Rogers gave UT a 52-44 lead. Kentucky scored on a three-yard run by Derrick Locke but Reynolds sacked Woodson on the two-point conversion, ending the game.
KEY PLAY

On UK's final drive of regulation, Woodson hit Lyons with a 17-yard pass on third-and-15 at the Vol 37-yard line. That big conversion put the Cats in range for the game-tying field goal.

KEY PLAYER

Tie: Woodson and Reynolds. The UK quarterback was 18 of 27 in the quarter for 179 yards and a TD. The UT defensive end intercepted a Woodson pass to thwart one Kentucky two-point conversion try and sacked him to thwart the other.

KEY STAT

Counting overtime, Ainge completed 28 of 45 passes for 397 yards and seven touchdowns.
