Three Vols are Freshman All-SEC

Three members of Tennessee's heralded rookie class have been named to the Coaches All-SEC Freshman football team.

The Vols had one player picked on offense (receiver Denarius Moore), one player picked on defense (safety Eric Berry) and one player picked for special teams (kicker Daniel Lincoln).

Moore, a 6-1, 185-pound true freshman from Tatum, Texas, caught 10 passes for 126 yards. He recorded a season-best 34-yard reception against Georgia and had a 17-yard gainer in the SEC Championship Game vs. LSU.

Berry, a 5-11, 205-pound true freshman from Fairburn, Ga., led Tennessee with five interceptions. He returned these for 222 yards, an average of 44.4 per return with returns of 96, 61 and 37 yards included. He also recovered two fumbles, returning one of these 52 yards. Berry started all 13 games – 12 at safety, one at cornerback – and ranked fourth on the team in tackles with 83.

Lincoln, a 6-0, 204-pound redshirt freshman from Ocala, Fla., connected on 21 of 28 field-goal tries and 49 of 50 conversion kicks. He made the first eight field-goal tries of his career, setting a program record. Against South Carolina he hit a game-tying 48-yarder with five seconds left, then made a game-winning 27-yarder in overtime. He also had a game-winning 33-yard field goal in the final minutes against Vanderbilt.

Lincoln shared first-team All-Freshman recognition with Arkansas kicker Alex Tejada.

Berry was the leading vote-getter among defensive backs but was not among the three unanimous All-Freshman picks. The only players accorded that honor were LSU receiver Terrance Toliver, Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno and Alabama linebacker Rolando McClain.
