Lady Vols earn six superlatives

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced its winners for the 2008 WBCA Superlatives for NCAA Division I, and Tennessee nearly ran away with the awards taking six of 10 nods with best pep band, coaching combo, community support, tradition, host school and competitive coach.

"I'd like to congratulate all of our 2008 WBCA Superlative winners," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "In just its second year, we are continuing to see growing popularity in this program on all levels. We hope to see even more members involved in the years to come."

Division I

Most Inspirational: Kay Yow, N.C. State

Most Likely to get a Technical Foul: Geno Auriemma, Connecticut

Best Pep Band: Tennessee

Rising Star: Coquese Washington, Penn State

Best Coaching Combo: Pat Summitt/Holly Warlick, Tennessee

Most Fun to Watch (Coach or School): Sherri Coale, Oklahoma

Best Community Support: Tennessee

Best Tradition: Tennessee

Best Host School: Tennessee

Most Competitive Coach: Pat Summitt

Nominations for the WBCA Superlatives were submitted through an online survey form. The top vote-getters for each superlative were then voted on through a balloting process, with the top vote-getter for each category being named the winner.

Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game as a sport for women and girls.
