All's not ''Wells'' with Vols

Judging from message boards and talk-radio shows, there is no shortage of theories on why a Tennessee football team pegged to contend for the national title is 4-3 overall and 1-3 in SEC play heading into today's game at South Carolina.

One recurring theme is that the Vols aren't good enough to be winning and aren't dedicated enough to mind losing.

Center Scott Wells, a native Tennessean from Spring Hill, is one Vol who refutes that explanation. He thinks the Big Orange is much better than it has shown, and he's disgusted by the way the team is playing.

''It's extremely frustrating,'' he said. ''It's embarrassing. It's every single one of the bad emotions you can have all in one. It turns your stomach to see a season like this happen.''
