23 in-staters on prospect list

More than 1,200 football prospects made ESPN's 150 Watch List for 2008, including 23 Tennesseans.

Unless you feel like wading through 41 website pages featuring 30 names each, here are the high points:

Only three of the 23 Tennessee prospects have committed thus far. Dominique Allen, a 5-11, 235-pound running back from Henry County High in Paris, has committed to the Tennessee Vols. DeMarcus Knight, a 6-2, 225-pound inside linebacker from Morristown East High, has committed to Ole Miss. Austin Long, a 6-5, 270-pound offensive tackle from Memphis Briarcrest, has committed to Georgia.

For what it's worth, Knight gets a 76 rating on the ESPN scale (which is never explained anywhere among the 42 pages of material). Allen and Long are rated top 150 prospects but given no numerical ranking.

Three of the top 23 in-state players, based on the ESPN rankings, attend Brentwood Academy. They are 6-3, 280-pound guard Alex Bullard (rated a 77), 6-1, 275-pound defensive tackle Barry Dabney (rated a 73) and 6-5, 220-pound tight end Thad McHaney (rated a 74). Cross-town Brentwood High, meanwhile, checks in with 6-4, 225-pound tight end Cameron Mason (rated a 69).

Two of the top 23 attend Memphis Whitehaven. They are 5-9, 201-pound safety Gene Robinson (rated a top 150 prospect) and 6-1, 210-pound outside linebacker Derrick Webb (rated a 77).

A total of seven Memphians grace the list. In addition to Long and the Whitehaven duo, the others are 6-5, 200-pound receiver Marlon Brown of Harding, 6-4, 305-pound guard Courtney Easterwood of Christian Brothers, 5-11, 180-pound running back Gabriel Hunter of Kingsbury. Hunter is rated a 77. Brown and Easterwood are top-150 players.

One of the top 23 in-staters is the younger brother of Vol wide receiver Austin Rogers. That would be Zach Rogers, a 6-2, 170-pound wideout who attends his sibling's old school, David Lipscomb High of Nashville. He is rated a top-150 prospect.

Alphabetically, the other 10 in-staters to make the ESPN rankings are as follows:

- Hunter Beedle, 6-3, 270 guard, Sullivan South (75)

- Chris Campbell, 6-4, 195 quarterback, Briarcrest Christian of Collierville (72)

- Romario Cathey, 6-3, 260 defensive tackle, Nashville Maplewood (74)
