The offensive side of practice was very one-dimensional today. Coaches Fulmer, Sanders, McCorvey, Stephens and Barry were all in one corner of Haslam Field with their players (quarterbacks, running backs, linemen, tight ends) working on the running game. All coaches were very critical of the execution of the plays that were called. It is always fun to watch coaches apply pressure to an aspect of their gameplan after having such a solid outing as they did this past Saturday. As Coach Fulmer said once before, "Keeps ‘em humble."
The defensive back lineup seems to be up in the air with Rashad Baker being out. Julian Battle will see time on Saturday at free safety and cornerback. Willie Miles and Jabari Greer will be the others in the rotation at corner as usual. Mark Jones and Gibril Wilson will be the other safeties in the mix. The odd men out, depending on where Battle ends up, will be Jones and Greer. This is just one aspect to keep an eye on this weekend.
Here is your daily injury update:
Rashad Baker has been lost for the remainder of the regular season. He tore his a knee ligament and could possibly return for a bowl game, but that is a stretch at this point.
Gerald Riggs fractured a finger in his left hand and will miss the remainder of the regular season. Riggs could also possibly return for a bowl game, but his chances of playing are higher than Baker's at this point. Riggs will have surgery tomorrow to repair the break.
Casey Clausen was able to pass the ball around some today. He didn't see any extensive action, but he was in full pads. He obviously didn't run around any, but Fulmer anticipates Clausen playing this weekend.
Troy Fleming missed practice to attend a family funeral.
