A 26-yard pass from Nick Stephens to Gerald Jones on Tennessee's initial scrimmage play showed promise but the Vols punted three plays later. Georgia then marched 79 yards in 12 plays to take a 7-0 lead. Brannan Southerland got the TD on a one-yard plunge. After a three-and-out by UT, Georgia marched to the Vol 17-yard line, at which point Blair Walsh nailed a 34-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead.
KEY PLAY

On third-and-10 at the Vol 38-yard line, Matthew Stafford hit wide-open fullback Shaun Chapas, who barrelled 37 yards to the Vol one-yard line. Georgia went up 7-0 on the very next play.

KEY PLAYER

Stafford. He completed 8 of 12 passes for 87 yards in the quarter.

KEY STAT

After gaining 26 yards on its first scrimmage play, UT's next 20 snaps produced a net of minus-6 yards.

Georgia's third possession of the game stalled at the Vol 3-yard line but Walsh booted a 20-yard field goal that padded the lead to 13-0. The Dawgs appeared ready to go up 20-0 when they advanced to the UT 13-yard line on possession No. 4 but Robert Ayers intercepted a screen pass. The Vol offense promptly marched 77 yards in six plays, the big play being a 60-yard bomb from Nick Stephens to Denarius Moore. Stephens hit Jones with a two-yards pass for the TD, narrowing the gap to 13-7. Georgia screwed up the ensuing kickoff return and had to start at its own 3-yard line with barely 2 minutes left to halftime. Incredibly, the Dawgs drove 97 yards in nine plays, scoring on a nine-yard pass from Stafford to Mohamed Massaquoi to go up 20-7 with nine seconds left to intermission.
KEY PLAY

After UT had pulled within 13-7, Stafford hit Demiko Goodman with an 18-yard pass and got 15 yards tacked on when Demetrice Morley was guilty (allegedly) of a helmet-to-helmet hit. The 33-yard gain moved the ball from UT's 49-yard line to the 16. Georgia scored a touchdown three plays later.

KEY PLAYER

Stafford again. He was 9 of 13 for 124 yards in the second quarter.

KEY STAT

At the half Georgia was 5 of 8 on third-down conversions, UT just 1 of 5.

Georgia's second possession of the second half reached the Vol 6-yard line before Eric Berry intercepted in the end zone and returned the ball 54 yards. A 13-yard strike from Stephens to Lucas Taylor capped a seven-play, 46-yard drive that pulled the Vols within 20-14.
KEY PLAY

On third-and-10 at the Georgia 30-yard line, Stephens hit Lucas Taylor with a 15-yard pass. The two hooked up again three plays later on a TD toss that pulled UT within 20-14.

KEY PLAYER

Ayers. The senior defensive end stopped Stafford for no gain at the Vol 6-yard line one play before Berry's tide-turning interception. Ayers later dumped Moreno for a six-yard loss, forcing the Dawgs to settle for a field goal they would kick on the first play of the final quarter.

KEY STAT

Through three quarters the Dawgs had 23 first downs, UT just 7.

Walsh nailed a 41-yard field goal on the first play of the quarter, padding Georgia's lead to 23-14. After a three-and-out by UT, the Dawgs put together an amazing 17-play, 76-yard drive that consumed 10:55 and ended when Walsh booted a 28-yard field goal that secured the final margin with 2:49 to play.
KEY PLAY

Down 23-14, Tennessee still had a chance to come from behind when a Britton Colquitt punt pinned Georgia on its 13-yard line with around 13 minutes left. Knowshon Moreno gained 11 yards on the Dawgs' first snap, however, igniting the 17-play drive that erased any faint hopes the Vols might have entertained.

KEY PLAYER

The entire Georgia offensive line. It dominated a weary UT defensive front on the game-clinching 17-play march - 15 of the plays being runs.

KEY STAT

Tennessee had the ball 17 minutes and 12 seconds all game, gaining 209 total yards. Georgia had the ball 42 minutes and 4 seconds, gaining 458 total yards.
