Lady Vols Wednesday Afternoon Practice Report

Pat Summitt was preparing her girls for a Saturday matchup with the Southern Cal Lady Trojans and it was very apparent that her players were not going to have let down this weekend against a very dangerous USC team.

Coach Summitt spent a lot time working with her post players today. She worked to help Ashley Robinson, Courtney McDaniel and Tye'sha Fluker improve their game in the paint. She worked a solid 45 minutes just passing the ball around and making her post players work for their points. Robinson and Fluker looked very solid against the scout defense.

Robinson spent the later part of her practice shooting mid-range jump shots. She was only making around 30-35 percent when she was unguarded. Mickie DeMoss got slightly edgy and moved up to guard Ashley. At that point she rattled off 6 straight jumpers. Go figure.

Kara Lawson, Shanna Zolman and Shyra Ely looked crisp shooting the ball from beyond the arc. Lawson's improved quickness from last year continues to be very fun to watch. She moves the ball around very well and works well to get open shots.

Shanna Zolman shoots the ball very well from the three-point line. She has one of the sharpest shot forms that I have ever seen. If she can just get a couple of shots to start dropping, she will have a great freshman season. Zolman could be the best free-throw shooter on the team. During today's practice, she connected on about 95 percent of her attempts.

Brittany Jackson sat out practice and is still recovering from her knee ligament injury she suffered a few weeks ago. She did use a bike to exercise while the team ran and she walked without a noticeable limp. Hopefully that will be a sign of good things in her rehabilitaion process.

The Lady Vols will tip off against USC on Saturday at 4:30 EST and the game will be televised by FOX Sports South.
