Tennessee Renews Rivalry With Georgia Tech After 33 Year Break For the first time since the 1968-69 season, the Tennessee Volunteers will meet the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Vols travel to Atlanta, Ga., where they will meet the Yellow Jackets in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Classic for Kids at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at Philips Arena. Georgia will meet Gonzaga in the first game of the two-game event.

This will be the first time in 33 years that the Vols and Yellow Jackets have met on the basketball court and just the eighth time since Georgia Tech left the Southeastern Conference following the 1964 season. Since Tech left the SEC, the Vols have won each of the seven meetings between the two schools.

Tennessee will finally be ending one of its longest breaks ever. The Georgia Tech contest will end a stretch during which the Vols have played just one game in the last 20 days. Since hosting VMI on Nov. 25, Tennessee's only game was at Texas A&M on Dec. 4. During that time, the Vols had breaks for Thanksgiving and final exams. The Vols enter Sunday's game with a 2-1 overall record following a disheartening loss at Texas A&M. Senior forward Ron Slay leads the SEC with 24.7 points to go with his 7.7 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Brandon Crump is averaging 14.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Jon Higgins is the only other Vol in double-figure scoring with 10.0 points.

Ranks seventh with 414 career three-point attempts ... His 39.6 three-point percentage is fifth on the UT charts ... Ranks 12th with 282 career assists ... The Georgia Tech game will mark his 99th career start.

Watson Gets The Point
Las Vegas, Nev., native C.J. Watson has taken over the point guard duties for Jon Higgins, allowing Higgins to return to his more natural shooting guard position this season ... Watson is the first true freshman to start the season-opener at point guard for the Vols since Tony Harris in 1997-98 ... Through his first three games he is averaging 5.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists against just 1.7 turnovers in 33.7 minutes of action.

Rally Vols
Two times the Vols have trailed by 12 points or more at halftime this season ... Against Gardner-Webb the Vols rallied from a 39-26 deficit at the half for a 71-69 win ... At Texas A&M (Dec. 4) the Vols trailed the Aggies 39-27 at the break before rallying to cut the lead to 63-62 ... Tennessee couldn't get any closer to the Aggies as they went on to a 83-66 win.

Young Guns
Tennessee's starting lineup this season has featured two true freshmen in each game and often times has a sophomore in it ... The Vols' roster has just three scholarship seniors and one junior ... Seven of the 11 scholarship players are underclassmen, including four true freshmen.

Looking At Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech enters Sunday's game with a 4-1 record following a 67-53 win over Marist at New York's Madison Square Garden on Dec. 7 ... Freshman forward Chris Bosh, a first team Parade All-America selection, leads the Yellow Jackets with 17.2 points and 11.8 rebounds per game ... Bosh has scored a double-double in each of Tech's first five games ... A total of five Tech players are averaging double-figure scoring ... Jarrett Jack, a 6-foot-3 freshman guard, joins Bosh in the starting lineup and is averaging 10.0 points and 6.4 assists per game ... The Tech starting lineup may feature two freshmen (Bosh and Jack), two sophomores (forwards Isma‚il Muhammad and Ed Nelson) and one junior (guard Marvin Lewis) ... Nelson, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, was named the 2002 ACC Rookie of the Year and is avoiding a sophomore slump by averaging 10.4 points and 7.6 rebounds ... The majority of Georgia Tech‚s field goals are from inside the arc, less than 25 percent of its shots are three-pointers ... The Yellow Jackets are dominating the boards this season, outrebounding opponents by 14.0 rebounds per game ... Tech has made a three-pointer in 477 consecutive games, the fourth-longest active streak in the nation ... Georgia Tech's freshman class was ranked as one of the 10 best in the nation ... Georgia Tech enters the Tennessee game needing two wins for 1,100 all-time, the Yellow Jackets are 1,098-973 in varsity basketball competition.

Coaching Connection
Tennessee assistant coach Chris Ferguson and Georgia Tech assistant Dean Keener worked together on Bill Foster's coaching staff at Virginia Tech in the early 1990s ... Ferguson served as an assistant for the Hokies from 1991-97 and Keener worked at Tech from 1991-95.

The Georgia Tech Series
