Kiffin vs. Spurrier

Some things never change ... Steve Spurrier needling Tennessee's head football coach, for instance.

As head man at Florida and now South Carolina, Spurrier spent the better part of the past 16 years tossing barbs at Phillip Fulmer. Spurrier recently showed himself to be an equal-opportunity annoyer by suggesting that Lane Kiffin, Fulmer's successor, broke the rules by contacting a high school prospect before passing the NCAA's mandatory recruiting exam.

Again, some things never change. Spurrier wouldn't be Spurrier if he let an opportunity to take a pot shot at a UT coach pass.

But some things DO change. Whereas Fulmer routinely bit his lip and said nothing in response to Spurrier's barbs, Kiffin seems downright eager to exchange snide comments with The Ol' Ball Coach.

Questioned earlier today about Spurrier's comment regarding the NCAA recruiting exam, Kiffin showed he has a sharp tongue of his own.

"I don't really care," the new Vol boss said. "I'm not concerned about that. I've got a job to do for our athletic department, and that's to put together the best staff we can put together and the best players we can put together.

"I'm not really concerned about that stuff. If Steve's concerned about my test, I got 39 out of 40 on it. I'd like to see what he got."
