Witten to announce in 'five or six days'

You'd figure that Tennessee's humbling 30-3 Peach Bowl loss to Maryland would've made junior tight end Jason Witten's decision on whether or not to return for his senior season a lot easier.

You'd figure that Tennessee's humbling 30-3 Peach Bowl loss to Maryland would've made junior tight end Jason Witten's decision on whether or not to return for his senior season a lot easier.

It didn't.

Witten says he will try to escape the media glare for a few days, clear his head a bit, then give the matter his undivided attention. Interestingly enough, he says he expects to meet with Vol head man Phillip Fulmer before announcing a decision.

''I'm going to take five or six days off ... probably a couple of those days just to get it (decision) off my back,'' Witten said immediately following the Peach Bowl. ''Then I think Coach Fulmer is going to come up and visit with my family. Then I'll make my decision from there.''

Smart money says the talented tight end is going to bypass his senior year and make himself available for April's NFL draft. If Fulmer gets the opportunity to make a late sales pitch, however, Witten might be persuaded to return.

Stay tuned.
