It appears that Lane Kiffin is returning to his California roots, in search of a quality quarterback to run his pro style offense at Tennessee.
InsidesideTennessee.com spoke to Scout.com four star signal caller Jesse Scroggins from Lakewood California about his offer and interest in the Volunteers.
"Yes sir I have an official offer from Tennessee to play quarterback," Scroggins confirmed. "I'm really excited about the offer. I have a lot of interest in Tennessee for a lot of reasons."
One of those reasons is Coach Kiffin's reputation with quarterbacks and how he has thrown the ball everywhere he has been.
"I love his offense," Scroggins said. "He has had great success tutoring quarterbacks."
Many might thing that distance could be a hindering factor for the Volunteers, apparently that isn't the case.
"All of my mother's family lives in Memphis," Scroggins said. "We go there a lot; I have always loved that part of the country."
Scroggins has the official offer letter from Tennessee but is looking forward to start talking with the Vol coaching staff.
"My coach has been talking to them a lot," Scroggins said. "They can't call me yet; I plan on calling them and start communicating with them a lot more. I have just been really busy lately and they have been in the middle of spring ball."
Scroggins plans on attending one of the summer camps in Knoxville in June and is excited about getting to know the Vol coaching staff.
"I have heard nothing but great things about them," Scroggins admitted. "I want to spend some time getting to know them."
Another thing that impresses Scroggins about Tennessee is the Vol's history of fan support.
"To have over 100,000 fans at every ballgame is just crazy," Scroggins said. "That shows how important football is in the south."
