It's no secret that Lane and Monte Kiffin is looking to up grade the talent and size of the athletes who play defense for the Tennessee Volunteers.
Gholston got a chance to visit Knoxville for the Vols Spring game, InsideTennessee.com caught up with the standout defender to get his thoughts about his visit to Rocky Top.
"It was a great trip, I liked it a lot there," Gholston said. "I did a lot of research on the place before the trip, so I knew a lot about it before I got there. It was better than I expected it to be."
Gholston, a 6-foot-7, 252-pound athlete who runs a 4.6 forty, has over 25 official offers. Most of the schools recruiting him want the standout defender to play on the line; the Kiffins may have other ideas for him.
"Both Coach Kiffins talked to me about playing linebacker," Gholston said. "Coach Monte said he could definitely get me to the next level. Playing linebacker would be fun."
Gholston got the opportunity to spend a lot of time visiting with the Volunteer coaching staff.
"What a great group of guys and coaches," Gholston said. "There is so much experience on that coaching staff, so much NFL experience."
Did the visit to Knoxville impress the Michigan athlete enough to make his top favorites?
"Right now I don't really have an early favorite," Gholston said. "Tennessee is definitely in my top five."
Did Gholston have a great time on his visit?
"From the moment I arrived, until the second I left, it was incredible," Gholston said. "It couldn't have gone any better."
Gholston hopes to make a decision sometime mid way through his senior season.
"It could happen earlier," Gholston said. "It might be a little later, right now I'm not sure."
