Hailes takes in UT camp

The University of Tennessee is attracting some top defensive line talent to Rocky Top.

Lane Kiffin hired Ed Orgeron, one of the best defensive line coaches in the nation; add Kiffin's father Monte, one of the nations top defensive coordinators, and one can understand why so many of the country's top defensemen are lining up to take visits to Knoxville.

Evan Hailes made the trip to the Vols Camp Saturday but watched instead of participating due to being involved in a minor car wreck.

"I was going to participate, but we had a car wreck," Hailes told InsideTennessee.com "I was a little banged up. I'm OK now."

Hailes has been to several college campuses. One difference he saw at Tennessee was Orgeron's high energy level.

"He is something else," Hailes said. "He is very energetic; everything was basically what I expected it to be. Same college experience, different school colors."

Hailes has a connection to the Tennessee Football program. His cousin Rico McCoy is currently a player on the Tennessee squad.

"I chilled a lot with him," Hailes explained. "I got to see what off-campus life was like."

Hailes will take a trip to Penn State this weekend and could make a decision shortly afterwards.

"I could make my decision soon, I'm not sure yet," Hailes said. "We will have to wait and see."

Does Hailes have an early favorite?

"No, not right now," Hailes said. "I would say that Tennessee is definitely in my top five."
