HT Group is RTL champ

Whoever says "Size doesn't matter" wasn't referring to the Rocky Top summer basketball league.

With 6-8 Boo Williams, 6-9 Wayne Chism and 6-9 Renaldo Woolridge dominating the backboards, HT Group eked out a 104-100 defeat of The News-Sentinel to claim the RTL title Thursday night at Knoxville's Bearden High Gym.

Williams, who starred at Eastern Michigan and later played in the NBA's Developmental League, led HT with 30 points. Chism is a senior at Tennessee, Woolridge a sophomore.

Former Vol JaJuan Smith (33 points), current Vols Scotty Hopson (24) and Brian Williams (18) shared the scoring load for The News-Sentinel.

Richardson Construction beat Ray's ESG 115-104 in the third-place game. Former Vol Damon Johnson scored 19 points and current Vol Tyler Smith 10 for the winners. Incoming UT freshman Kenny Hall produced 29 for Ray's, which was without the services of ex-Vols C.J. Watson and Ron Slay.
