Lady Vols take 26th straight over Alabama

Tennessee got on a roll in the first 15 minutes down in Tuscaloosa and Alabama could not catch up. The Lady Vols not only won Pat Summitt's 801st game, they also won their 26th straight game over a Alabama women's basketball team.

Gwen Jackson scored 13 of her 18 points in the first half to lead No. 5 Tennessee to an 88-45 rout of Alabama on Thursday night.

Kara Lawson added 16 points, Shyra Ely 14, Shanna Zolman 13 and Ashley Robinson 11 for Tennessee (13-3, 2-0 SEC).

Beth Vice led Alabama (10-5, 0-2 SEC) with 13 points, and Shun Hunter added 10. Leading scorer Jamilah Johns, who entered averaging 13.5 points, was held to eight but added a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Lady Vols led 38-26 lead at halftime, but they tightened their defense in the second half and used a 29-7 run to take control. The Crimson Tide went more than five minutes without a field goal during the spurt.

Alabama never got any closer 32 the rest of the way, and trailed by as many as 46. The Crimson Tide, which never led, shot only 16 percent and committed 10 turnovers in the second half.

The Lady Vols will now move on to play Florida in Gainesville on Sunday at 3pm EST.
