Five star defensive end has interest in UT

It's no secret that Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron aren't affraid of going up against anyone for the best recruits. This appears to be the case with California's five star defensive end Ronald Powell. It's no secret that Powell has two schools at the top. The big question is will he be open to other schools? InsideTennessee has the answer to that question and many more.

Being one of the top defensive linemen in the country has its privileges and its perks. five star defensive end Ronald Powell will also tell it's a responsibility, being ranked the No. 2 defensive end in the country.

"It's great," Powell told Thursday evening. "It feels good, but it's also a responsibility. A lot of people, young guys look up to you, I don't want to disappoint."

There are two schools at the top for Powell, one on the west coast close to his Moreno Valley, California home, the other on the opposite side of the country.

"Right now the two I'm talking to the most is USC and Florida," Powell said. "Those have been my top two for a while."

Will Powell consider some other schools, possibly taking all of his five official visits?

"There are several schools still really recruiting me hard," Powell said. "Tennessee is really coming on strong. It's a program I will take a look at."

Powell is intrigued by Lane Kiffin and the chance of possibly playing defense for Monte Kiffin.

"Monte is one of the best in the business," Powell said. "It would be a great opportunity to play for him. I like the excitement Coach Lane Kiffin is building at Tennessee."

Is that enough for Powell to take an official visit to Knoxville?

"There is a good chance I will take an official visit there," Powell said. "I will get to see them play against Florida; I plan on taking a visit there that weekend."

Powell is a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end who runs a 4.6 forty, he finished his junior season with 60 tackles and 13 sacks on defense and added six touchdown receptions as a tight end.
