Lady Vols beat Mississippi State 82-68

The Tennessee Lady Vols remained unbeaten in SEC play in the 2002-03 season. If the Lady Vols can keep this current streak going, they will play themselves into a strong seed in the NCAA tournament and roll into the SEC tourney on a roll.

The Lady Vols survived a tough Mississippi State team as Gwen Jackson took over the second half to lead Tennessee to a 78-65 victory on Sunday afternoon in Thompson-Boling Arena. Tennessee improved to 16-3 and remains perfect in the SEC at 5-0. Mississippi State fell to 15-3 and 3-2 in conference.

Trailing by 9 at halftime, Mississippi State stormed back in the opening minutes of the second half eventually taking the lead, 41-40, with 17:24 left. That's when Gwen Jackson took control pulling down 10 boards and scoring 18 in the second half to give Tennessee back the lead to stay.

For the game, Gwen Jackson scored 25 and corralled 12 rebounds to lead Tennessee. Fellow senior Kara Lawson showed her senior leadership as well scoring 15 and pulling down 6 boards. Freshman Shanna Zolman netted 14 points.

Tennessee's long balls were not falling today as the Lady Vols shot a paltry 5-25 from beyond the arc. This set up many second chance points for the likes of G. Jackson and Ashley Robinson.
