Dawgs trip UT in swimming

The UT swim team's four-year home winning streak has ended.

The 11th-ranked Vols suffered a 111-132 loss to the No. 12 Georgia Bulldogs 111-132 Saturday at the UT Student Aquatic Center. The Vols, now 5-1 for the season and 26-2 all-time against the Bulldogs, suffered their first home loss since the 1998 season when theys fell to Texas 119-124.

''I am disappointed with the loss,'' head coach John Trembley said. ''We had opportunities to close the gap, but we just didn't get it done. Georgia was tough all the way through.''

Renato Gueraldi dominated the freestyle events, winning both the 50 and 100 free. He held the lead the whole way in the 50 free, touching the wall in a time of 20.10. In the 100 free, Gueraldi jumped out fast and held off Georgias Matt Brado for the win (44.96).

Phillip Jones controlled the diving well, winning both the one-meter and three-meter springboard events. Jones took the one-meter with a score of 353.25 and the three-meter with 364.80 points.
