UT duo make Parade A-A team

Tennessee has commitments from two Parade All-America football players and is in the hunt for several more.

The prestigious A-A squad, released on Sunday, rates Eric Young (Union, S.C.) 11th among linemen and tabs Daniel Brooks (Jackson, Tenn.) fifth among linebackers. Both blue-chippers committed to UT in the past week.

Tennessee remains in the hunt for three of Parade's top six receiver prospects -- No. 1 Steve Smith (Woodland Hills, Calif.), No. 5 Robert Meachem (Tulsa) and No. 6 Bret Smith (Warren, Ark.).

In addition, UT still has a shot at three Parade A-A linemen -- second-rated Joe Cohen (Melbourne, Fla.), 15th-rated Turk McBride (Camden, N.J.) and 16th-rated Mike Jones (Oak Lawn, Ill.).

Michael Bush, a quarterback from Louisville who is rated Parade's "Top All-Purpose Player," hasn't totally eliminated the Vols. However, he is believed to be headed for the University of Louisville or maybe Ohio State.

Tennessee made a big push for some of Parade's premier quarterbacks but came up empty. Top-rated Chris Leak (Charlotte, N.C.) picked Florida, second-ranked Kyle Wright (Danville, Calif.) picked Miami and fourth-ranked JaMarcus Russell (Mobile, Ala.) is expected to pick either LSU or Florida State.

UT made the final five on four of Parade's top linebacker prospects before dropping out of contention. The four are top-rated Ernie Sims (Tallahassee, Fla.), second-ranked Wesley Jefferson (Brandywine, Calif.), fourth-ranked Earl Everett (Bushnell, Fla.) and sixth-ranked Shawn Crable (Massillon, Ohio).

Tennessee signed seven Parade All-Americans last February -- offensive linemen Rob Smith, Heath Benedict and Brandon Jefferies, defensive ilneman Jonathan Mapu, kicker James Wilhoit, quarterback James Banks and running back Gerald Riggs, Jr.
