Vols FINALLY win a close one

After losing big games to Georgia and Louisville by a grand total of eight points, the Tennessee basketball team knuckled up and got a win in a tight game. The Vols took South Carolina on Wednesday night by a score of 60-56.

Freshman Stanley Asumnu and C.J. Watson stepped up in a bigtime way to close out the game tonight with South Carolina. Asumnu scored all 7 of his points in the second half and keyed an 11-0 run that regained the led for the Vols following a slight two-point led by the Gamecocks.

Watson was a perfect from the free-throw line on the night. He hit all seven of his attempts. The frosh point guards continues to play terrific basketball for Buzz Peterson.

Due to major foul trouble, SEC leading scorer Ron Slay was limited to around 21 minutes of action on the evening. Slay still managed to led the Vols in scoring with a respectable 16 points.

When Carlos Powell missed a three-point attempt for Carolina from the top of the key with 2 seconds remaining, that ended all hope for the ‘Cocks.

Jon Higgins hit a three-pointer and Asumnu scored three buckets to give the Vols a nine point led with seven minutes remaining in the game. That turned out to almost knock Carolina out. At the time the game was very much up in the air, but that roll by the Tennessee offense proved to be a blow to the USC morale.

Tennessee will travel down on the Plains to battle the Auburn Tigers on Saturday afternoon at 4pm EST in a key SEC matchup. The Tigers have been on a roll as of late and are sure to give the Vols a fight.
