Redd to wear Orange?

The top uncommitted football prospect in the state of Tennessee, tight end/defensive end Vince Redd of Elizabethton, is expected to decide between Tennessee and South Carolina in the days ahead.

Gamecock head man Lou Holtz was to make an in-home visit today but Redd asked that no one visit this week because he had four basketball games scheduled.

Redd also visited Virginia, Virginia Tech and Arkansas.

"He doesn't say much, but I think it will be either South Carolina or Tennessee," said Cyclone coach Tommy Jenkins.

Redd wants to play both football and basketball in college, and has assurances from all of the schools recruiting him that he'll have the opportunity. He's averaging 13 points and 6.5 blocked shots per game for the Elizabethton High hoops squad this winter. His football stats last fall included 74 solo tackles and 35 assists. He also has the hands and speed (4.65 in the 40) to be an SEC-caliber tight end.

Redd is ranked No. 3 on Rocky Top News' Fabulous Fifteen list of in-state prospects. That list will be published in RTN's spectacular 48-page National Signing Day issue, due out in mid-February.
