How UT's future foes fared

Tennessee's football program saved some money on scouting over the weekend since its two remaining opponents were playing at the same site - Dudley Field in Nashville.

That's where Game 12 foe Kentucky beat Game 11 foe Vanderbilt 24-13.

Here's a brief recap on each team:

- Vanderbilt (Nov. 21 in Knoxville). The Commodores (2-9, 0-7) posted a moral victory of sorts in their 24-13 loss to Kentucky. After scoring 10 points or less in each of their first six SEC games, the Dores put up 13 first-half points vs. the Wildcats and led 13-10 at the break. Vandy couldn't handle prosperity, however, managing just 31 net yards and zero points in the second half. Senior quarterback Mackenzi Adams completed 11 of 24 passes for 127 yards and freshman tailback Warren Norman chipped in 52 yards on 12 rushes. Vandy's 10th-ranked pass defense limited UK quarterbacks to 6 completions in 14 attempts for 50 yards with 2 interceptions. Kentucky's biggest gain through the air was a 41-yard halfback pass thrown by Derrick Locke. Vanderbilt surrendered 308 rushing yards, however, and faces the prospect of a winless SEC record unless it can upset Tennessee this weekend at Knoxville.

- Kentucky (Nov. 28 in Lexington). The Wildcats (6-4, 2-4) are bowl eligible for the fourth year in succession after notching a 24-13 win at Vanderbilt. The Cats dominated statistically, piling up a 22-11 advantage in first downs, a 308-82 advantage in rushing yards, a 399-209 bulge in total yards and a 36:20-23:40 bulge in time of possession. Big Blue tailback Derrick Locke rushed 25 times for 144 yards and wideout Randall Cobb added 99 yards on 14 carries from what is now being called the "WildCobb" direct-snap formation. One of Cobb's direct-snap plays resulted in a 21-yard touchdown burst. Freshman Morgan Newton started at quarterback for UK but former starter Mike Hartline returned from a knee injury to see spot action, completing 2 of 6 passes for 10 yards with an interception. Whether Hartline is healthy enough to start by the Tennessee game remains to be seen.
