Memphis junior athlete holding UT offer

Tennessee Head Coach Lane Kiffin, who just completed his first season on the Hill, plans on making recruiting Memphis a priority. Recruiting Coordinator Ed Orgeron and Tennessee native Kippy Brown are expected to pull big dividends from the Bluff City. One Memphis junior prospect that has already received a Vol offer is Lonnie Ballentine. Go "Inside" to get his thoughts on the recruiting process.

One of the state's top juniors is getting a lot of attention and a lot of offers.

Memphis Southwind High School athlete Lonnie Ballentine has already picked up a lot of SEC offers, including one from the state's biggest school Tennessee.

Ballentine, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound defensive back with 4.39 speed, is very surprised and pleased with all the attention he is receiving.

"It's been great," Ballentine told "All the attention and all the offers really surprised me. I can't put in words or explain to you what it truly means to me."

Currently Ballentine is holdingoffers from UT, LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Alabama and Louisville.

As a junior the standout defender racked up over 50 tackles, six interceptions and 25 pass break-ups.

Did Ballentine grow up liking one school above the rest?

"Yes sorta," Ballentine said. "I grew up liking Tennessee. They are definitely recruiting me hard right now."

Ballentine has had a chance to take in a game at Rocky Top this past season and came away more than impressed.

"It was incredible," Ballentine said. "I loved the game day atmosphere there. It's crazy seeing over 100,000 fans rooting for one team."

Ballentine is hoping to take in some of the Vols spring practice as well as seeing some other schools that have offered him.
