Vol golfers eighth at Jacksonville

Ian Parnaby sandwiched two great rounds around a bad one, shooting 69-77-69--215, in helping the Vol golf team finish eighth at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at Sawgrass Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.

UT's three-round score was 287-298-292-877.

Vol sophomore David Skinns finished three strokes back of Parnaby, tying for 18th with scores of 72-72-74--218.

John-Scott Rattan finished tied for 49th with a 74-77-74--225, while fellow sophomore Ross McGowan finished tied for 58th with a 72-74-81--227. Senior Andrew Pratt finished tied for 62nd at 79-75-75--229.

Augusta State claimed the team championship (852 strokes). Clemson was second, 10 strokes back. Texas (870), Wake Forest (871) and Florida (872) rounded out the top five teams.

D.J. Trahan of Clemson claimed the individual title with a playoff win over Dustin Bray of North Carolina and Ryan Baum of Duke. Trahan shot a 73-71-67-211. Bray fired a 69-67-75-211, while Blaum had a 68-75-68-211.

The Vols return to action March 3-4 at the Cleveland Golf/USC Southwestern Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif.
