Tobias Harris is McDonald's A-A

Tennessee basketball signee Tobias Harris was selected to the 2010 McDonald's All American High School Boys Basketball Team Thursday, as announced by the McDonald's All American Basketball Games selection committee on ESPNU.

Earning the label of "McDonald's All-America" is one of the most prestigious honors in prep basketball.

The 33rd annual McDonald's All-American Game takes place Wednesday, March 31 at 8 p.m. ET at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Harris will suit up for the East squad.

More than 950 male and female high school student-athletes have been named McDonald's All-Americans. From those alumni, more than 90 percent have played Division I college basketball and more than 185 currently compete in the NBA or WNBA. Notable former boys participants include the likes of Shaquille O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Kevin Durant, Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Michael Jordan.

"Tobias is one of the hardest working, most dedicated, intelligent and mature student-athletes I have come across in a long time," UT head coach Bruce Pearl said. "The one word I would use to describe his game Is ‘productive.'

"He will lead by example and get others to follow."

Harris is the second McDonald's All-America to sign with Tennessee during Pearl's five-year tenure on Rocky Top. He is averaging 25.3 points and more than 10 rebounds per game this season.

A native of Dix Hills, N.Y., Harris has led Half Hollow Hills West High School to an unblemished 16-0 record with two regular-season games left to play. He is the school's all-time leading scorer and is 91 points shy of becoming the 12th Long Island boys basketball player ever to score 2,000 career points.

In addition to this most recent feather in his cap, Tobias Harris also has been placed on the Naismith Trophy Boy's High School Player of the Year Award watch list. And last month, USA Basketball named Harris to the 2010 USA Junior National Select Team, which will face off against the World Select Team in the 13th annual Nike Hoop Summit in April.

"Associate head coach Tony Jones did an outstanding job building a relationship with Tobias and his family during the recruiting process," Pearl said.

Harris signed with UT during the early signing period in November, along with guards Jordan McRae and Trae Golden—both of whom are from the state of Georgia and were 2010 McDonald's All-American nominees. Tennessee's signing class is currently rated fourth nationally by
