Thomas gets visit from UT coaching staff

One of Memphis' top athletes received a visit today from the Tennessee coaching staff. Memphis Melrose High School has produced a lot of DI talent over the years, this year doesn't appear to be any different. Athlete Tino Thomas is already holding four offers, but it's the offer that he doesn't have that intrigues him the most. Go "Inside" for the latest on his recruitment.

Several of Memphis' top prospects received some visits from the Tennessee coaching staff this week.

Memphis Melrose running back and defensive back Tino Thomas grew up a Tennessee fan, and he received a visit to his school from Vol wide receiver coach Charlie Baggett.

"It was great to see the Tennessee coaches stop by," Thomas told Wednesday evening. "I have always liked Tennessee a lot. I would love to get an official offer from them. I'm waiting on it."

Currently, Thomas is holding official offers from Arkansas, Kentucky, Duke and Memphis. The 6-foot-0, 190-pound athlete plays running back and defensive back for his Melrose High School team. Thomas is hearing good things from the Tennessee coaching staff.

"They were telling me what a great program Tennessee is," Thomas said. "They seem very close to offering me; I plan on getting that offer from the Vols."

Thomas was a member of Team Tennessee this past weekend at the Badger 7-on-7 tournament held in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

"I thought it was a great tournament with a lot of great talent there," Thomas said. "I loved the level of competition."

Thomas turned in a solid performance this past weekend on both sides of the ball.

"I made some big plays offensively and defensively," Thomas said. "I love to be a big-time playmaker."


A very talented young man. Good athlete with good size and good speed.

Definitely a DI talent and will likely end up somewhere in the SEC. Look for his offer sheet to increase over the next few weeks. Melrose has produced several top flight running backs; Thomas looks to be another one.

He was impressive Saturday, breaking up several big throws by the opposition. He also made a couple of one-hand catches that were spectacular.
