Golfers eighth in LaLa Land

A top-20 finish by David Skinns enabled the Vol golf team to tie for eighth in the recent Cleveland Golf Collegiate Classic in Los Angeles.

Skinns tied for 19th after shooting 71-74-71--216. Tennessee teammate Ross McGowan shot 70-72-75--217 to tie for 23rd. Ian Parnaby shot 73-75-71--219 (tie, 35th), John-Scott Rattan 73-73-74--220 (tie, 41st) and Brandon Skeen 79-74-72--225 (tie, 68th).

UCLA's Steve Conway carded 73-66-68--207 to win medalist honors. Teammates John Merrick and Roy Moon tied for third at 211. Not surprisingly, UCLA led the 17-school field with a team score of 845 strokes. California (852) was second and Oklahoma (862) third. Tennessee's team total was 868 strokes.

The Vols, ranked No. 25 nationally, return to act March 10-11 at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla.
