InsideTennessee's Hot Board Running Backs

It's summertime at Rocky Top, and recruiting is heating up. One position that is a priority for the new Vol coaching staff is running back. Go "Inside" to get a look at our newly introduced Recruiting Hot Board. This board will give you our thoughts at each position, even what we think the Vols' chances are in landing some top targets.

Running Back
6-foot-0, 195-pounds
Apoka Senior High, Apoka, Florida

The Basics:Smith committed to the Vols after turning in an outstanding performance during one of UT's summer camps. He received the offer and wasted no time accepting it. Smith is known as a big physical back with good speed. According to his high school, he isn't caught from behind.

Offer List: Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Tulane, Northwestern, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, and Tulane.

The Inside Take on stock rising or falling: Committed to Tennessee. You would say his stock is about as high as it can get. The question mark here will be what will he do if he gets an offer from Florida or Florida State.

Percent chance of signing with UT:95%

How many running backs will Tennessee sign?: With the loss of Bryce Brown, expect the Vols to sign two RBs in this class.

Final Comments: Smith's high school head coach said once one of his players is committed to a school, he stays that way. Vol fans are hoping this is correct in Smith's situation.

Romar Morris
Running Back
5-foot-10, 170-pounds
Salisbury, Salisbury, North Carolina

The Basics: It appears that the Vols are making a late run with Morris. The standout running back recently named a top five and didn't have the Vols listed at all. We are hearing from several different sources that UT is making an impression with this back. Will Tennessee get a visit from Morris? Continue to follow the situation on

Offer List: Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Arkansas, East Carolina, North Carolina and Wake Forest.

The Inside Take on stock rising or falling:It appears that Morris' stock with Tennessee is definitely on the rise - the key question is will it be enough to overcome his previous top five. This situation will be interesting to watch.

Percent chance of signing with UT:50

Final Comments: Tennessee is making a solid run for Morris; now we will see if the feelings are mutal or not. Morris is a talented back with great speed, something that UT is currently missing.

Andrew Buie
Running Back
5-foot-10, 190-pounds
Trinity Christian Academy, Jacksonville, Florida

The Basics:Tennessee needs to add some speed to their stable of running backs. Andrew Buie would be one that would do that. Buie has an impressive offer list and it will be interesting to see if the relationship builds on both sides.

Offer List: Auburn, Iowa State, Tennessee, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and South Carolina.

The Inside Take on stock rising or falling: All things point to Buie's stock rising with Tennessee. The Vols will have to beat out Auburn, Louisville, Ole Miss and Pittsburgh.

Percent of Signing with UT: 55

Final comments: Can Tennessee land Buie? It appears that the Vols chances are getting better. Stay tuned for this developing story.

Isaiah Crowell
Running Back
6-foot-0, 210-pounds
Carver High School, Columbus, Georgia

The Basics: Crowell is one of the top backs in the country. To be the best you have to beat the best in getting athletes like Crowell. He is rated as the No. 2 back overall in the nation. He has great balance, great speed and great size.

Offer List: Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, USC, Duke, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Texas.

The Inside Take on stock rising or falling: Alabama is the team to beat. Auburn also is in the running, as well as Georgia. Tennessee may be on the outside looking in on this one, but the Vols have remained solid in the race. Stock is staying steady but could be falling just a little.

Percent chance of signing with UT:30

Final Comments: Don't underestimate the recruiting abilities of Derek Dooley, especially in the state of Georgia. This by far would be his crown jewel if he was able to pull off securing Crowell's commitment. This would shock Dawg Nation almost as much as the Vols did when they stole Da'Rick Rogers. No one gave Tennessee a chance of doing that this time last year.

Mike Blakely
Running Back
5-foot-9, 192-pounds
Manatee High School, Bradenton, Florida

The Basics:Blakely is one of the top backs in the country. His strengths include his cutback ability, his vision and abliity to catch the ball out of the backfield.

Offer List:Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Iowa, Iowa State, Louisville, Michigan, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Nebraska, North Carolina, Rutgers, South Carolina, South Florida, USC, West Virginia, Syracuse

The Inside Take on stock rising or falling: Auburn is the team to beat here, and after that don't forget Florida and Clemson. This one won't be easy for the Vols, but Darin Hinshaw is doing a great job recruiting in Florida.

Percent chance of signing with UT:38%

Final Comments:The Vols would love to sign a back like Mike Blakely, but most likely Blakely is going to be a Tiger.

Jerron Seymour
Running Back
5-foot-6, 180-pounds
Miami Northwestern High School, Miami, Florida

The Basics: One word to describe Seymour is speed. He is an underrated back that currently has three offers, one being from Tennessee. He ran for for 1,439 yards and 17 TDs while averaging 12.3 yards per carry. Chipped in 90 yards receiving. First Team All County RB by Miami Herald.

Offer List: Tennessee, West Virginia, and Florida International

The Inside Take on stock rising or falling: Stock appears to be rising for Seymour. The question is how long will Tennessee try to hold him off to see if they can get one of the top-rated backs that they are after.

Percent chance of signing with UT:75

Final Comments:I expect the Vols to sign two backs; the question will be which two. They already have one commitment and I expect UT to slow play before accepting another one.

Justice Hayes
Running Back
5-foot-10, 180-pounds
Grand Blanc Community High School, Grand Blanc, Michigan

The Basics: This could be the surprise get for the Vols. He is friends with DeAnthony Arnett and if Derek Dooley could pull off getting this duo to sign with the Vols, he will have done something special.

Offer List: Michigan State, Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan, Tennessee, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Wisconsin and Cincinnati

The Inside Take on stock rising or falling: The top two teams to beat for Justice are Michigan State and Notre Dame. If Tennessee can get past those two schools, the Vols may have a great chance of pulling off an upset. Percent chance of signing with UT: 45

Final comments: If Tennessee could land Arnett it would have a better chance of landing Justice. If one doesn't happen the other probably won't either.

Savon Huggins
Running Back
6-foot-0, 200-pounds
St. Peters Prep, Jersey City, New Jersey

The Basics: Huggins is one of the top running backs in the country. He has 22 official offers. He has great vision and great cutback ability.

Offer List: Alabama, Boston College, Florida, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, UCONN, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Northwestern, Oregon, Purdue, South Carolina, South Florida, Virginia, West Virginia

The Inside Take on stock rising or falling: The big question is will Tennessee make Huggins Top 10 cut on July 1. If the Vols do, don't count out Derek Dooley and his staff pulling off an upset here. Huggins won't make a rushed decision, most likely deciding on signing day.

Percent chance of signing with UT:25

Final Comments: This would be a great one to get for Tennessee. It will be a long shot for sure, but don't count out the Vols just yet.
