Skinns 2nd in Seminole tourney

A runnerup finish by sophomore David Skinns spurred the Tennessee mens golf team to a fifth-place team finish this week at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla.

Skinns fired a 69-70-70--209 to finish second to Dustin Bray of North Carolina (67-71-67--205). Skinns previously finished runner-up at the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions in October. He has five top-10 finishes this year.

Vol sophomore Ross McGowan tied for 17th by shooting a 72-71-74--217. Senior Ian Parnaby was two strokes back at 68-75-76--219 and tied for 23rd. Sophomore John-Scott Rattan and senior Andrew Pratt were among a group of players tied for 52nd place. Rattan turned in a 79-77-69--225, while Pratt carded a 73-77-75--225.

Sophomore Brandon Skeen competed as an individual for the Vols, finishing tied for 32nd with a 74-73-74--221.

The 11th-ranked North Carolina Tarheels claimed the team championship with scores of 285-279-285--849. Wake Forest, ranked sixth, finished second with an 855, while South Carolina (858), College of Charleston (860) and UT (863) rounded out the top five.

The 24th-ranked Vols return to action March 22-23 when they compete in the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational at Statesboro, Ga.
