Rod's squad back home

After losing two of three games last weekend at Auburn, the Tennessee Baseball Vols are glad to be back on the home diamond this week. Rod Delmonici's squad hosts Purdue Wednesday, then South Carolina, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Purdue game begins at 3, the Friday and Saturday games at 7 and the Sunday game at 2.

Tennessee stands 11-7 overall and 1-2 in SEC play heading into this week's action. The Vols split a Saturday doubleheder with Auburn, losing 3-2 and winning 9-6 to snap a five-game losing streak. The Tigers then won Sunday's rubber game by another 3-2 score.

Freshman Luke Hochevar pitched a complete game victory over Auburn in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. He allowed one earned run on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks. He improved to 4-1 while dropping his ERA to 1.91 in 33.0 innings with 35 strikeouts against six walks and 28 hits. Opponents are hitting just .219 off him.

Javi Herrera slugged his 10th career home run against Auburn in Game 1.

Freshman outfielder Michael Rivera -- profiled in the March issue of Rocky Top News -- is on a team-best nine-game hitting streak, batting 19-for-41 (.463).
