UT is fresh off a 1-1 weekend that saw it finish as the runner-up at the home-hosted First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic. Included in the Big Orange's results were a 3-1 loss to eventual event champ No. 12 Maryland and a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph over Richmond.
Lady Vol freshman midfielder Tori Bailey continued the strong start to her collegiate career, registering her first career goal and match-winning tally as well as her team-best second assist, on the tying score from sophomore forward Alexis Owens, during the victory over the Spiders.
Junior forward Emily Dowd managed to tickle the twine with her initial goal of the season during the first half of the loss against the nationally-ranked Terrapins.
Under the guidance of soccer coaching legend Anson Dorrance, North Carolina will be looking to provide its longtime head coach with his 700th career victory on the pitch (his all-time mark is a staggering 699-36-23 in 32 seasons).
Tennessee is 0-9-1 all-time versus UNC and 0-5 in Chapel Hill, N.C., not that any team has had a great deal of success against the powerful Tar Heels. UT did manage to tie UNC in Knoxville, 0-0 (2OT), back on Sept. 10, 2004, and dropped a close, 1-0 decision to North Carolina at the Regal Soccer Stadium in the two teams' most recent meeting on Aug. 31, 2008.
The Carolina Blue & White enters this weekend's action with a 3-0-1 mark, owning victories over #8 Texas A&M (3-0), Michigan State (3-0) and two-time defending Big 12 champ Missouri (6-1) as well as a 2-2 (2OT) tie during last weekend's No. 1 vs. No. 2 match-up against Stanford.
UNC has already scored 14 goals this season during its opening four contests with freshman forward Kealia Ohai leading the way with three of those tallies. Junior forward Courtney Jones guides the squad with five assists, while Jones, Ohai and sophomore forward Alyssa Rich (two goals, three assists) are dead-locked for the team-lead in points with seven. In all, nine different Tar Heel players have tickled the twine while 14 have recorded points.
Between the pipes freshman goalkeeper Anna Sieloff has drawn the majority of minutes (348), posting a 3-0-1 mark, 11 saves and a 0.78 goals against average.
