Terrence Toliver caught 3 TD passes from Jordan Jefferson and both Stefan Ridley and Spencer Ware had 100-yard rushing games for the Tigers. Aggie juniors Ryan Tannehill passes dor 185 yards and 2 TDs, Cyrus Gray rushed for 100 yards, and Jeff Fuller caught 7 passes.
Texas A&M had a great start to the Cotton Bowl when Coryell Judie returned the opening kockoff 69 yards to the LSU 31-yard line. After Ryan Tannehill completions to Uzoma Nwachukwu and Kenric McNeal and a 4-yard rush by Cyrus Gray gave the Aggies a 1st and goal at the LSU 6-yard line, Tannehill connected with Nwachukwu for a touchdown. Randy Bullock's extra point gave the Aggies a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.
On LSU's first possession, the Aggie defense forced LSU 3-and-out but a roughing the punter penalty on tghe Aggies gave LSU a first down. LSU drove down to the Aggie 24-yard line but the drive ended when Coryell Judie intercepted a Jordan Jefferson pass at the Aggie 2-yard line.
The Aggies drove from their 2-yard line to the LSU 22-yard line before having to settle for a 39-yard Randy Bullock field goal to take a 10-0 lead with 5:03 left in the first quarter.
LSU got on the board by driving 80 yards in 8 plays and Terrence Toliver broke free from A&M coverage over the middle for a 42-yard touchdown catch for Jordan Jefferson. The extra point by Josh Jasper cut the Aggie lead to 10-7 with 1:48 left in the first quarter.
Texas A&M drove the the LSU 23-yard line, but after an LSU sack of Tannehill, Randy's Bullock's 52-yard field goal attempt had the distance was unsuccessful hitting the right crossbar.
LSU drove 65 yards on 9 plays, all on the ground, with Jordan Jefferson scoring on a 1-yard scramble. Jasper's extra point gave LSU its first lead, 14-10, at the 10:13 mark in the second quarter.
Texas A&M responded by driving 78 yards in 7 plays, with Cyrus Gray tossing a 14-yard halfback TD pass to Uzoma Nwachukwu to regain the lead. Bullock's extra point gave the Aggies a 17-14 lead with 7:44 to go in the second quarter.
LSU took the lead back by driving 67 yards in 7 plays, with Stephan Ridley scoring on a 17-yard run. Jasper's extra point gave the Tigers a 21-17 lead with 4:43 to go in the first half.
The next two Aggie possessions ended on Ryan Tannehill interceptions, the second giving LSU a 1st-and-goal at the Aggie 2-yard line. After failing to pick up any yards on two rushing attempts, on 3rd-and-goal Jordan Jefferson tossed a TD pass to Tolliver in the corner of the end zone. LSU's extra point gave the Tigers a 28-17 halftime lead.
At halftime, Texas A&M actually led LSU in first downs, 15 to 14, and in total yards, 258 to 253.
For Texas A&M, Ryan Tannehill had completed 13 of 21 passes for 145 yards and 1 TD and rushed for 24 yards but with 2 interceptions. Cyrus Gray had rushed for 68 yards on 10 carries and thrown a 14 yard TD pass. Jeff Fuller had caught 4 passes for 52 yards while Uzoma Nwachukwu had caught 4 passes for 38 yards and 2 TDs.
For LSU, Jordan Jefferson had completed 5 of 12 passes for 77 yards and 2 TDs with 1 interception and rushed for 42 yards. Terrence Toliver had caught 3 passes for 58 yards and 2 TDs. Stevan Ridley had rushed for 61 yards and 1 TD on 15 carries. Spencer Ware had rushed for 61 yards on just 3 carries.
LSU received the second half kickoff. A Von Miller sack left LSU facing a 3rd-and-19 but Jordan Jefferson scrambled 32 yards for a first down. Two plays later Jefferson again found Tolliver open over the middle for a 41-yard TD pass. Jasper's extra point gave LSU a 35-17 lead with 12:06 to go in the third quarter. That was to be the only score of the third quarter.
On the first possession of the fourth quarter, the Aggies took advantage of a 12-men-on-the-field penalty on LSU and a 4th down conversion to drive 73 yards in 13 plays. Facing third and goal from the LSU 4-yard line, Ryan Tannehill lofted a pass into the corner of the endzone to Kenric McNeal and McNeal came down with it for an Aggie touchdown. Bullock's extra point cut the LSU lead to 35-24 with ten minutes left in the game.
The Aggie went for an onside kick but the ball went out-of-bounds giving LSU possession at their 48-yard line. LSU picked up one first down before having to settle for a 50-yard Josh Jasper field goal to extend the Tiger lead to 38-24 with 6:12 to go in the fourth quarter.
On the ensuing possession, a Ryan Tannehill pass attempt was intercepted by LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu at the A&M 28-yard line. LSU drove to the Aggie 9-yard line but had to settle for a 26-yard Jasper field goal to extend the Tiger lead to 41-24.
The last Aggie drive ended after Ryan Tannehill completed a pass to tight end Hutson Prioleau but Prioleau was stripped of the ball by Tyrann Mathieu.
LSU (11-2) ran out the clock to preserve a 41-24 win over Texas A&M (9-4) in the 75th Cottom Bowl.
For the game, LSU and Texas A&M both had 23 first downs, while the Tigers edged the Aggies in total yards, 446 to 351.
For LSU, Jordan Jefferson completed 10 of 19 passes for 158yards and 3 TDs with 1 interception and rushed for 67 yards and 1 TD on 12 carries. Terrence Toliver caught 5 passes for 112 yards and 3 TDs. Stevan Ridley rushed for 105 yards and 1 TD on 24 carries and Spencer Ware rushed for 102 yards on just 10 carries.
For Texas A&M, Ryan Tannehill completed 22 of 35 passes for 182 yards and 2 TDs and rushed for 43 yards but with 3 costly interceptions. Cyrus Gray had another 100-yard rushing game, with 100 yards on 20 carries, and threw a 14 yard TD pass. Jeff Fuller caught 7 passes for 83 yards while Uzoma Nwachukwu caught 4 passes for 38 yards and 2 TDs.
And so ends the most successful Aggie season in several years, with lots of great memories.
The Aggies return most of their team and will be looking for an even for successful 2011 campaign.
