Texas A&M got a huge early commitment on Saturday afternoon when top 2013 quarterback prospect Kohl Stewart (6-4, 185, 4.7) from Houston St. Pius X committed to the Aggies.
Kohl told the Aggie Websider’s David Sandhop he wasn't necessarily planning to commit when he called Aggie Wide Receivers Coach Troy Walters today but during the conversation he said he felt he was ready to make it official and told Walters, "I think I'm an Aggie."
Walters was at a coaching convention and according to Kohl was very surprised and he said, "Kohl, are you committing to me right now?" Kohl said yes and Walters went into celebration mode in the middle of the convention site.
Kohl later reconfirmed this commitment in a call to Aggie head coach Mike Sherman.
Kohl is already projected to be one of the top 2013 quarterback recruits in the country. Kohl plays for Houston St Pius X, the same high school that produced Aggie quarterback and current Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. As a sophomore, Kohl passed for 3,130 yards and 30 touchdowns with just 9 interceptions.
Both of Kohl’s parents graduated from Texas A&M, and Kohl has grown up attending A&M games.
Still just 16, Kohl is the complete quarterback package. He has size, arm strength, athletic ability, a quick release, deadly accuracy, touch on the short-to-intermediate routes and the deep ball. Kohl has the chance to be a five-star QB if he stays healthy and continues to develop.
Kohl attended Texas A&M’s June camp and came away with an offer. Aggie Websider’s David Sandhop was at at the A&M camp and said Kohl’s performance may have been the best for a junior-to-be that he’s ever seen in a camp setting.
Kohl attended and put in top performances at several other camps this summer, including LSU, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss.
Kohl is also a stud baseball pitcher, with a fastball already in the low 90’s, and he plans to play both football and baseball at Texas A&M.
With Kohl’s verbal commitment, Texas A&M has the centerpiece of its 2013 class. Kohl becomes the third commitment in the Texas A&M class of 2013, joining top WR Jamar Gibson (6-2, 190, 4.5) from Baytown Sterling and top DE Christian Lecouture (6-5, 250, 4.8) from A&M Consolidated.,
