Robert Johnson a Top 2014 RB

RB Robert Johnson (5-9, 180, 4.5) from Lubbock Estacado is the best 2014 prospect in the Texas Panhandle and widely considered to be one of the top 2014 running back prospects in the state.

As a sophomore, Robert rushed for 2,203 yards and 30 TDs on 193 carries – that’s an incredible 11.4 yards per carry and a touchdown every 6.4 carries.

Robert was the 4-3A Player of the Year and a Class 3A All-State 2nd Team RB selection by both the Associated Press and the Texas Sports Writers Association.

Robert cites his strengths as being a leader and a good team player, saying “I’m in it for the team.”

When I asked Robert what NFL or college player he’d most compare his play to, he said NFL Hall-of-Fame running back Walter Payton.

During the offseason, Robert is running track, where's he runs a 10.7 100 meters, and is on the 4x1, 4x2, and 4x4 relays.

Robert is already getting contacted by colleges. He's visited local college Texas Tech and is getting letters from Texas and Kansas. He's currently most interested in Texas, LSU, Oregon, TCU, and Texas Tech.

I asked Robert what he was looking for in a college, he responded “A college that’s good in football, has high standards for their players, and also can get you to the next level.”

Robert would like to attend some camps and colleges this spring and summer.

Robert’s goals this year are to “better myself as a person and make my stats better than they were this year.”

Robert is the No. 10 prospect and No. 2 running back on the initial Aggie Websider Texas Top 50 for 2014 released on March 3rd.
