Manziel leads Ags to 58-10 rout of Hogs

It was close early, as Texas A&M trailed Arkansas 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. But then the Aggies reeled off 51 unanswered points to rout Arkansas 58-10 on Saturday afternoon at Kyle Field for the Aggies' first SEC win. Johnny Manziel passed for 453 yards and 3 TDs and rushed for 104 yards and 1 TD to lead the Aggies.

It was close early, as Texas A&M trailed Arkansas 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. But then the Aggies reeled off 51 unanswered points to rout Arkansas 58-10 on Saturday afternoon at Kyle Field for the Aggies' first SEC win. Johnny Manziel passed for 453 yards and 3 TDs and rushed for 104 yards and 1 TD to lead the Aggies.

Texas A&M received The Opening kickoff and promptly moved 72 yards in 9 plays, with Johnny Manziel tossing a 4-yard touchdown pass to Mike Evans. The extra point by Taylor Bertolet gave the Aggies a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.

Arkansas went 3-and-out when facing 3rd-and-1 Aggie defensive end Damontre Moore tackled Hog running back Jonathan Williams for 4-yard loss.

After a touchback on an Arkansas punt, Texas A&M's next possession started with a 52-yard run by Aggie quarterback Johnny Manziel to the Arkansas 28-yard line. The Aggie drive stalled and Taylor Bertolet missed a 39-yard field goal attempt.

Arkansas scored a quick touchdown on their next possession when Hog quarterback threw a short pass to running back Knile Davis and Davis took advantage of a couple of missed tackles by the Aggies to take it 64 yards for a score. Zach Hocker's extra point tied the game at 7 with 6:35 left in the first quarter.

After a Texas A&M punt, Arkansas drove from their 12-yard line to the Aggie 9-yard line before Zach Hocker kicked a 26-yard field goal to give Arkansas a 10-7 lead with 37 seconds left in the first quarter.

Texas A&M drove to the Arkansas 27-yard line and Taylor Bertolet kicked a 46-yard field goal to tie the game 10-10 at thwe 12:44 mark in the second quarter.

The Aggie defense forced Arkansas 3-and-out, and Texas A&M proceeded to drive to the Arkansas 8-yard line before Taylor Bertolet kicked a 26-yard field goal as Texas A&M regained a 13-10 lead with 8:07 to go in the second quarter.

Texas A&M forced an Arkansas turnover when Steven Terell intercepted a Tyler Wilson pass attempt and Terell returned the interception to midfield. Texas A&M took advantage of the turnover, driving 50 yards in just 3 playsm with Johnny Manziel throwing an 11-yard field touchdown pass to Ben Malena. Bertolet's extra point gave the Aggies a 10-point lead 20-10 with 4:37 left in the second quarter.

Texas A&M forced an Arkansas punt which sailed into the endzone for a touchback. On Texas A&M's first play from scrimmage Johnny Manziel connected with an instride Ryan Swope for an 80-yard touchdown. Bertolet's extra point extended the Aggie lead to 27-10 with 2:31 to go before halftime.

Arkansas and Texas A&M exchanged punts, and an Arkansas incomplete 'Hail Mary' pass attempt ended the first half.

At the half, Texas A&M led Arkansas in total yards, 409 to 276, and in first downs, 16 to 13.

For Texas A&M, Johnny Manziel had completed 18 of 24 passes for 261 yards and 3 TDs and rushed for 84 yards on 9 carries. Ryan Swope had 4 catches for 114 yards and a TD, Mike Evans 3 catches for 44 yards and a TD, and Uzoma Nwachukwu 3 catches for 38 yards. Ben Malena had rushed for 55 yards on 5 carries.

For Arkansas, Tyler Wilson had completed 16 of 26 passes for 211 yards and 1 TD with 1 INT. Cobi Hamilton had 8 catches for 88 yards. Knile Davis had rushed for 60 yards on 14 carries and caught 2 passes for 64 yards and 1 TD.

Arkansas received the opening kickoff of the second half. Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson had his second pass of the day intercepted by Aggie safety Steven Terell and Terell returned it to the Arkansas 21-yard line. Texas A&M drove to the Arkansas 3-yard line before Taylor Bertolet kicked a 21-yard field goal to give Texas A&M a 20-point lead, 30-10, less than a minute into the third quarter.

An Arkansas punt gave Texas A&M the ball at their 9-yard line. The Aggies drove 91 yards in 7 plays, with Christine Michael scoring on a 10-yard run. Bertolet's extra point gave Texas A&M a 37-10 lead midway through the third quarter.

On Arkansas' next possession, Aggie defensive end Damontre Moore forced a Hog fumble which Tramain Jacobs scooped up and returned 28 yards for a Texas A&M touchdown. Bertolet's extra point gave the Aggies a 44-10 lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, Johnny Manziel threw 58 and 30-yard completions before Manziel scored on a 6-yard run. Bertolet's extra point gave Texas A&M a 51-10 lead at the 10:23 mark in the fourth quarter.

Jameill Showers and Matt Joeckel came on at quarterback for the Aggies in relief of Johnny Manziel.

After Arkansas went for it and failed on a fourth down attempt, Matt Joeckel led a 3-play, 28-yard scoring drive, with Trey Williams scoring on a 13-yard run. Bertolet's extra point made the score Texas A&M 58, Arkansas 10, and this would be the final score.

Texas A&M rolled up 58 points, 32 first downs, and 716 total yards, 498 passing and 218 rushing, and led Arkansas in total yards, 716 to 515, and in first downs, 32 to 25.

For Texas A&M, Johnny Manziel completed 29 of 38 passes for 453 yards and 3 TDs and rushesd for 104 yards and 1 TD on 14 carries. Ryan Swope had 5 catches for 141 yards and a TD, Thomas Johnson had 5 catches for 108 yards, and Mike Evans 6 catches for 83 yards and a TD. Ben Malena rushed for 59 yards on 9 carries while Trey Williams added 33 yards and a TD on 4 carries. Twelve different players caught passes for the Aggies.

For Arkansas, Tyler Wilson ended up completing 29 of 59 passes for 373 yards and 1 TD but with 2 INTs. Cobi Hamilton had 11 catches for 162 yards. Knile Davis had rushed for 65 yards on 18 carries and caught 2 passes for 64 yards and 1 TD.

Texas A&M (3-1, 1-1 SEC) picks up the first of what will be many SEC wins.

Texas A&M now goes on the road to face Ole Miss next Saturday night.
