Manziel and Ags shock No. 1 Bama 29-24

No. 15 Texas A&M travelled to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face No. 1 Alabama. Johnny Manziel passed for 253 yards and rushed for 92 to lead the Aggies to a 29-24 upset of the Tide on Saturday afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Aggies dominated the first quarter, opening up a 20-0 lead, then withstood a Tide comeback to beat the top ranked team in the country.

No. 15 Texas A&M travelled to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face No. 1 Alabama on Saturday afternoon. Johnny Manziel passed for 253 yards and rushed for 92 to lead the Aggies to a 29-24 upset of the Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Texas A&M totally dominated the first quarter, opening up a 20-0 lead, with 172 total yards to 34 for Alabama and led in first downs 9 to 1 , with Johnny Manziel completing 10 of 11 passes for 76 yards and 1 TD and rushing for 74 yards on 5 carries.

After forcing Alabama 3-and-out to open the game, Texas A&M drove 73 in 9 plays, the big play being a 29-yard Johnny Manziel scramble, and Christine Michael scored on a 1-yard run. Taylor Bertlolet made the extra point to give the Aggies an early 7-0 lead.

On Alabama's next possession, an A.J. McCarron pass was intercepted by Aggie linebacker Sean Porter, thanks to a hard hit by Aggie safety Howard Matthews, and Porter returned the interception 16 yards to the Alabama 41-yard line.

Johnny Manziel threw a 32-yard pass completion to Kenric McNeal to give the Aggies a first-and-goal at the 9-yard line. On 3rd-and-goal Johnny Manziel almost fumbled but recovered to throw a 10-yard touchdown to Ryan Swope. Bertolet's extra point gave A&M a 14-0 lead at the 7:59 mark in the first quarter.

The Aggie defense delivered another Bama 3-and-out and Johnnny Manziel and the Aggie offense marched 73 yards in 14 plays, consuming six minutes of clock, with Christine Michael scoring again on a 1-yard run. Taylor Bertolet missed the extra point, leaving Texas A&M with a 20-0 lead with 41 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Alabama offense finally got on track, driving 75 yards in 13 plays, with T.J. Yeldon scoring on a 2-yard run to cut the Aggie lead to 20-7 with 10:04 left in the second quarter.

Texas A&M drove to the Alabama 37-yard line where facing 4th-and-7 Johnny Manziel scrambled but came up a yard short, turning the ball over on downs with 4:10 left in the first half.

Alabama drove 67 yards in 10 plays, most of it through the air, and Eddie Lacy scored on a 2-yard run to reduce A&M's lead to 20-14 with 19 seconds left in the first half. Texas A&M ran out the clock to take their 20-14 lead into halftime.

At the half, Texas A&M led in total yards, 232 to 173, and in first downs, 13 to 9.

Johnny Manziel had completed 15 of 16 passes for 118 yards and 1 TD and had rushed for 82 yards on 9 carries.

For Alabama, AJ McCarron had completed 10 of 16 passes for 86 yards and Eddie Lacy had rushed for 68 yards on 9 carries.

Both Texas A&M and Alabama went 3-and-out to open the third quarter. On A&M's second possession of the second half, Johnny Manziel completed a pass to Mike Evans but Evans was flagged for a bogus offensive pass interference call which pushed the ball back to the A&M 10-yard line. Johnny Manziel was almost sacked for a safety before the Aggies ended up punting from their endzone, giving Alabama great field position at theuir 48-yard line.

Alabama drove to the Texas A&M 11-yard line before the Aggie defense forced the Tide to settle for a 28-yard Jeremy Shelley that cut the Aggie lead to three, 20-17, with 4:56 to go in the third quarter.

Texas A&M drove 63 yards in 16 plays to the Alabama 11-yard line before Taylor Bertolet kicked a 29-yard field goal to give the Aggies a 23-17 lead at the 14:16 mark in the fourth quarter.

Damontre Moore sacked Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron and the Tide went 3-and-out. Texas A&M drove 51 yards in 6 plays to the Alabama 19-yard before Taylor Bertolet just missed a 37-yard field goal wide right, giving Alabama the ball at their 20-yard line with 10:06 left in the fourth quarter.

A holding penalty pushed the ball back to the Bama 12-yard line before AJ McCarron connected with Amari Cooper for a 50-yard completion to the Aggie 38-yard line. On the very next play, T.J. Yeldon rushed for 8 yards but Aggie safety Steven Terrell forced a fumble which was recovered by Aggie cornerback Dustin Harris at the Texas A&M 34-yard line.

It took Texas A&M just two plays to score, with Johnny Manziel hitting an instride Ryan Swope for a 42-yard completion, then Manziel hit Malcome Kennedy on a fade route for a 24-yard touchdown. A two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving Texas A&M with a 29-17 lead with 8:37 left in the game.

Alabama went all pass, with AJ McCarron completing 4 passes before finding Amari Cooper who had beaten Aggie coverage for a 54-yard touchdown. Bama's extra point cut the Aggie lead to 29-24 with 6:09 left in the game.

A&M went 3-and-out, forcing an Aggie punt. The 44-yard Ryan Epperson yards was returned 5 yards by Christion Jones to the Alabama 40-yard line.

On their first play from scrimmage, AJ McCarron threw a 54-yard pass to Kenny Bell but Aggie safety Toney Hurd saved a touchdown tackling Bell at the Aggie 6-yard line.

It was there that the Aggie defense made their stand. Three rushing plays left Alabama facing 4th-and-goal at the 2-yard line. AJ McCarron tried to connect with an Alabama receiver in the front corner of the endzone but Aggie cornerback Deshazor Everett stepped in front for an interception that he returned to the Aggie 5-yard line with 1:36 left in teh game.

Three Ben Malena rushes and two Alabama timeouts left the Aggies with a 4th-and-1 with 40 seconds left in the game. Texas A&M lined up for a punt but Alabama was called for offsides, giving the Aggies a first down. Johnny Manziel took a knee to run out the clock.

Texas A&M (8-2, 5-2 SEC) shocks No. 1 Alabama (9-1, 6-1 SEC) and the college football world!

For the game, Texas A&M led in fist downs, 23 to 17, while those long second half Alabama pass completions gave the Tide an edge in total yards, 431 to 418. Ben Malena rushed for 50 yards on 18 carries.

Johnny Manziel put himself squarely in the Heisman hunt, completing 24 of 31 passes for 253 yards and 2 TDs and rushing for 92 yards on 18 carries with no turnovers. Ryan Swope caught 11 passes for 111 yards and 1 TD.

For Alabama, AJ McCarron completed 21 of 34 passes for 309 yards and 1 TD but with 2 costly interceptions. Amari Cooper caught 6 passes for 136 yards and 1 TD. Eddie Lacy rushed for 92 yards and 1 TD on 16 carries.
