Numerous sources are suggesting that redshirt freshman quarterback Matt Davis is planning to transfer immediately from Texas A&M to a junior college.
The Klein Forest product was a highly-regarded dual-threat QB that enrolled at mid-term on 2012 and was expected to compete for the starting job in 2014 with Johnny Manziel's likely departure to the NFL after 2013.
However, Davis appeared to struggle in fall workouts and when the Texas A&M coaching staff gave more reps to true freshman Kenny Hill with the second team in the fall's last scrimmage on Saturday, it was clear that he had an uphill struggle to reach the field for the remainder of his career at A&M.
In fact, sources confirm that after the scrimmage the Texas A&M coaches did speak with Davis about his future with the Texas A&M program.
The decision to immediately transfer to a junior college allows Davis to go to another D-1 school in the spring and play right away. Had he stayed another season, Davis would have to sit out the 2014 season and become eligible in 2015 as a junior.
The expected transfer will leave Texas A&M with only three scholarship quarterbacks with Johnny Manziel's NCAA eligibility still under investigation.
**Update** The university has confirmed that Davis will indeed transfer immediately.
