Websider Fall Practice Report - Final Day

The training camp portion of fall practice came to an end on Wednesday as the Texas Aggie football team worked out on the grass fields. Aggie Websider's David Sandhop lays out the details from Wednesday's workout.

According to Coach Sumlin, the team will begin prep work for Rice on Thursday and that marks the end of fall camp and our access to the beginning of practice.

It's interesting how quickly things can change from one day to the next in the one live 11-on-11 session that we are allowed to observe. Yesterday, Johnny Manziel sliced and diced the Aggie defense to score in four plays. The last three of those passes were to freshman Ricky Seals-Jones.

That connection continued on Wednesday when the first team offense came out in a new package with both tight ends split out to the right side with Mike Evans, and Ricky Seals-Jones was lined up on the outside to the left. Manziel goes back to Seals-Jones on a quick stop route for about 6-7 yards. After a short scramble by Manziel, the offense goes back to its standard four-receiver scheme and Seals-Jones shifts back to his slot position. He runs about 10 yards and stops in the seam. Manziel once again focuses in on the freshman and goes for consecutive completion No. 5 to the big fish. However, Johnny didn't see Steven Jenkins sitting on the route and steps in front of the pass and takes it back for a pick six. It was a mistake by Manziel, but the freshman also didn't come back for the ball to cut off Jenkins' angle to the ball...but to be honest, that one is on Manziel. He didn't look off the coverage and then didn't see Jenkins.

Matt Joeckel took the snaps with the second team offense. After a nice 5 yard run by Trey Williams, Joeckel was sacked twice by Tyrell Taylor and Hardreck Walker to end the drive quietly.

Here's the rotation for the day:

Jarvis Harrison was out on Wednesday, so the staff inserted Garrett Gramling with the first unit. On the second team, Ryan Lindblade is starting at right tackle spot, moving Cheek to right guard and Shep Klinke to left guard.

On defense, Julien Obioha is starting to emerge as the unit's leader. He usually leads the group out on the field and is the emotional focus of the defense.
