Signing Day Hoops Nuggets

The early signing period marks the high profile signing period for collegiate hoops. The Aggies have two commitments from a pair of promising point guards and are on the prowl for a Top 15 national prospect. Aggie Websider's David Sandhop has the latest in signing day hoops scoop.

Today starts the early signing period for most sports with the exception of football. Thus, basketball gets most of the headlines for this week in November.

I spoke to Mansfield Timberview head coach Duane Gregory just a few minutes ago for an article I'll have up later. Alex Robinson will be signing his LOI shortly. I think the signing ceremony is at noon, so I expect the fax to roll in soon after that.

Gregory told me that Alex is a very mature and a very smart player and he's one of the most versatile point guards he's seen at the high school level. Robinson is a great assist man and does a great job of creating scoring opportunities for his teammates, but he can also score from anywhere on the court whether finishing at the rim, a mid-range shot, or a 3-point shot from the perimeter. I asked about his defense, and Gregory kinda laughed and said, "You can say that. He sticks with everybody we put him on. He knows the importance of good defense, which is rare at this level."

Last night in the team's opener, Robinson scored 25 points with 5 assists, 3 steals, and a couple of rebounds. He also drained three 3-pointers.

I spoke to Sify Ndir's coach, Baron Thelman, and he confirmed that Sidy will sign with Texas A&M today. He is supposed to send me a photo of him signing when it happens.

FInally, I spoke to several sources regarding Top 10-15 national prospect Justise Winslow and it sounds like he'll probably sign in the early signing period...probably next week. He finished up his last visit to Stanford last week and also took official visits to Duke, Arizona, UCLA, and Texas A&M. It's good from A&M's standpoint that he's signing early. The Ags made a big impact in their sales pitch about running the offense through Justise like OSU is doing with Marcus Smart. That's what has kept A&M seriously in the hunt. The quicker he signs, the more that message will affect his decision. If he waits until the spring, the message fades while he watches Duke and Arizona on national TV throughout the season.

Anyway, the A&M staff still feels they have a decent chance here.

Finally, I know it's a broken record, but I asked about Trocha's status once again. I was told that it looks better than ever that he'll be good to go in December...but, it's not quite official yet. Yeah, I hear you. I wish this merry-go-round would stop as well. Sounds like it's about to though.
