Texas A&M junior offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi has decided to return for his senior season with the Aggie football team, head coach Kevin Sumlin said.
"Cedric is a terrific athlete and one of the top offensive linemen in the country, and I am excited that he has decided to come back for his senior season," Sumlin said. "In addition to being a top football player, he is a great student and an even better person off of the field. He will be a great leader for our team."
Ogbuehi, from Allen, Texas, has started 30 games for the Aggies over the past three years. He started at guard as a freshman and sophomore and moved to right tackle for his junior season. With Ogbuehi in the lineup, the Aggies have produced the top three efforts in school history in passing, scoring and total offense, including the top two total offense outputs in SEC history the past two seasons.
"I am happy to announce that I am returning to Texas A&M for my senior season," Ogbuehi said from his hometown of Allen. "I love playing in front of the 12th Man, I really enjoy being around my teammates and I will be closer to earning my degree. I appreciated the information I received from the NFL and from Coach Sumlin and Coach (B.J.) Anderson and I feel it is in my best interest to come back to school. My family has been very supportive and I appreciate their love, input and guidance."
Projected to be drafted in the first round in multiple 2014 NFL mock drafts, Ogbuehi will follow a similar path as 2013 All-American Jake Matthews, who also postponed his NFL aspirations for a year and returned for his senior season. Matthews went on to earn first-team All-Southeastern Conference and All-America honors after helping lead the Aggies to one of the greatest offensive seasons in SEC history. He was a finalist for the Outland Trophy and Senior CLASS Award, and he won the SEC's Jacobs Blocking Trophy.
Texas A&M's offensive tackle legacy has been impressive in recent years with three-year starter Luke Joeckel being selected No. 2 overall in last year's NFL Draft, and Matthews ready to join him as a high first-round draft selection. Matthews is viewed as a consensus top 10 selection in the 2014 Draft has been rated as high as the No. 2 overall pick in some mock drafts.
